Slack in throttle cable - no more adjustment

Hola. Took some of the slack out of my throttle cable as I had nearly an inch of deflection with almost no pressure while cold. I've taken the nut almost as far as it will go and it is tighter but still getting around a half inch of deflection. Do I just need to replace the cable?

Check the rubber bushing that is attached where the throttle cable joins your accelerator pedal - mine is perished / split and I have a similar amount of play... I am probably going to replace that bushing if I can (or find a way to make it last...)

Does the bushing keep tight?

I have mine all the way out. 257k miles. I'd probably consider replacing it. I was helping my partner at work yesterday tune up his taco and we put his cable almost all the way out, his has ~240k. I would think that they need to be replaced, at least if you want it tight, about every 250k miles. I looked for the bushing on the pedal, it seems like it would be a failed/not failed part. Just my opinion.

Easy to replace the cable anM is not expensive. I don't recommend this BUT......you can carefully bend the cable bracket to driver's side. :hiding:

Having looked at it again today, I agree with the previous two posts - the bushing really isn't designed to be replaced and it isn't too expensive to just replace the whole cable. (I'm sure you could find something to take up the slack if you really didn't want to replace the whole cable.) Appreciate the input guys...

As a broke college student I used a series of small zip ties on the cable between the stop end and to bushing on the accelerator to take up slack. Worked like and charm. Just saying.

I just found alot of play in mine too try zip tieig that bushing wow does it make a difference
Re compressed it nice and tight and zip tie around the wire, but I'm gonna try adjusting under the hood tomorrow

Replace throttle cable

I was tightening my throttle cable on my 02 4runner. Over tightened and snapped the threading. I just want to replace the whole cable now. Only problem is i can only find a cable for a 97 t4r. is the length the same???
