Hey everyone! I don't post a ton but I'm pretty proud of this project I pulled off with my old man this weekend...Used The Adventure Index ( TheAdventureIndex.com ) drawers as a guide and modified them for the 5th Gen + Sliding Cargo tray.
Used heavy duty locking drawer slides (rated to 450lbs.) and 1/2 birch plywood throughout. The drawers are anchored to the sliding tray with a 10" angle iron on each side...Likely not the most secure given the sliding tray material but good enough for government work!
The large drawer - currently holding my Viair compressor and some other recovery items.
The smaller, double drawer comes out twice and has a lift top to create some extra space.
The first slide out is made to hold some small 1gal. propane tanks and a Coleman double-burner stovetop. The smaller slide-out (with the lift top) will be used to hold some cooking supplies.
The sleeping platform is pretty basic but still allows me to get underneath. Designed to be high enough to slide my totes in/out. The entire platform is two pieces to allow it to be moved in and out. The front (closer to the driver/passenger) has two legs (2x4's cut to height) keeping it up and the rear is supported on a cleat attached to the rear of the drawer carcasses. The rear is then held in place via bolts/wingnuts to secure it while in use/traveling and allow for removal for daily driving.
The sleeping platform is at a slight angle because the seats compress down with some weight on them - installing at an angle allows it to be flat when sleeping on them.
Didn't get any good pictures of it but the wheel wells are covered up pretty simply...Just wanted to create a flat surface for sleeping but still have as-needed access to the factory jack and storage locations on the driver/passenger sides, secured with some velcro.
Not a perfect build but it should work well for some upcoming ski bumming I'm planning on doing!
