SlickmisterN's RESQRNR E-Locked, 5-speed, 4x4 Build

Hello, I'm fairly new to the community and currently reside in Napa, CA. Much respect to "The Great Him" and his "Rescue Runner" build and the many other existing "Rescue Runners"....I'm acknowledging my lack of originality in the naming process.

Purchased my 2000 4Runner in September of 2014 with 118,600 miles after selling a 1999 BMW M3 :pray2: and within a week the "mods" started.

Day 1 - October 20th 2014: The starter began acting up giving me intermittent starts and finally leaving me stranded at an o'rielys parking lot. With the help of this forum I was able to remove the starter and replace it's contacts with ease. I got the repair kit from amazon for about $13. This is my old solenoid and contacts compared to what new copper contacts look like.

The rear license plate frame visually began to annoy me so I painted it black to match. I roughed up the area with medium grit paper, tack clothed it clean then used rubbing alcohol to wipe it down. I used a healthy base of Rust-Oleum primer, 4 coats of their gloss black, and 3 coats of clear enamel using 0000 steel wool to buff in between coats. Looks professional enough. It wasnt worth it for me, though you might consider buying a can of SEM Black #202 and taking the panel off to get it absolutely perfect.

The brushbar was not my style so I took it off and sold it on craigslist. Pictures still showing the mounting tabs above the bumper though they have since been removed...

I am currently enrolled in a welding program and bought a mig welder so I am hoping to fab up a plate bumper soon enough.

November 2014: I got a killer deal on some old Yakima SST roof towers and 52" crossbars and put a bid in on the retro 43" fairing from ebay in the last 5 seconds. My inspiration is from 4-Ripcord's build. It may be poser, serve no purpose, and perhaps hurt gas mileage, but they are visually appealing to me.

Head unit swap! Went with a Jensen vx7020. I really like it. Added an Esky rear-view camera too. Trailer hookups don't get any easier...

I also did the LED bulb gauge and console swap to clean up most of the ugly green.

December 1st 2014: Got a package from Japan! Hilux Surf Field Monitor Unit. Unfortunately it did not come with any portion of the wiring harness loom/plug so I had to do a bit of research getting to know the function of each contact/pin. I made individual connectors from shrink wrap and pin plugs from a computer serial plug.

After that swapping in the single sunroof visor tilt control from the double in the JDM unit was a breeze. Just two yellow wires for the map lights get cut and spliced to the gray ones on the new field monitor unit, the switches for lights and sunroof fit right in using the original lens cover.

Sorry for the blurry pic. White LED's in the field monitor make the display blue and white with a little green instead of mostly green. Hard for me to photograph well.

December 27th 2014:
Now we're getting somewhere! Rear coming out for the E-Locker Swap with 4.30 gears!

All you really have to do is fiddle with some wires...

April 2015: Took a page from member "Ghost Ring's" build and started a cargo basket/roof rack project by modifying a Rola rack into one piece and making custom mounting tabs for the pre-existing roof rails. Thanks for the idea!

Truck is looking good. Seems like you've got a healthy start on it for sure. I'm jealous of the field monitor, I've always thought they were pretty rad.

Yea I was lucky enough to snag it with "buy it now" on ebay within the first hour it was posted. Got it for what I thought was a reasonable $200 shipped but others find them cheaper! I'm just happy its the same Grey color as my interior and besides all the wiring just pops right in.

Your build is obviously tremendous though.
