Slider position

I searched, I promise. At this point i'm either asking a stupid question or I suck at searching...

How far out should sliders stick out? I have some weld on 4xInnovation sliders on the way and i'm thinking ahead to how they will be mounted, how far out, what angle etc etc.

I see some that don't appear to stick out much at all...

and others like this...

I have a feeling the answer is "do what you think is best" But I wanted to ask.

From what I've seen, the angle at which they will be installed has some degree of extension. But yeah, in the end, it's up to you .. And/or how rough you're wheeling.. Will you or your passengers need to use it to get in and out of the rig?

Depends on how the sliders were designed. Some were designed to tuck in close so they don't get in the way in tight spaces. Some where designed to stick out a little to allow a toehold for stepping on. I'm sure there's at least some degree of adjustability if it's a weld-together kit.

I don't think so. More over, it'll probably cause problems for them getting in and out. My kiddo's are barely tall enough to crawl in as it is.

I've seen the angle some have been mounted also but I wasn't sure what the best way to angle it was. I guess you angle it until its just below the door opening?

My biggest concern is getting dirt on my pants from dirty sliders when I get in and out or when i'm buckling my kids in their car seats. I'll have to keep the sliders super clean.

I have 4x sliders also, without the kickout. You didnt mention if yours have the kickout or not. I welded mine straight on, no angle. The length was determined by the legs sent with the kit, i went with the length of the four shorter legs, two of them had to be cut to equal the length of the other four. I chose the location based on looks, function as steps and of coarse coverage for protection. If you ordered kickout sliders the length of the legs might have to be shorter based on how far the kickout will extend.

I put mine close in and high with the body to protect from rocks underneath. Some weld them way out so when crawling, theyll protect the doors from damage, as they will hit rocks first. I chose mine close in since I dont do a lot of hardcore crawling, but occasionally get high centered, so they save the bottom of my doors and rocker panels, and I can still easily get in and out.

In the end though, like you said, its basically up to you and how you see fit.

I angle mine with a 1" kick up in height, also w/ kickouts that are just past the rear tires.

Use mine as a step and for mine occasional hard core rocking. I found that if you are coming down and sliding on them, that weight will push them up higher pushing them closer to your door opening. I have added longer gussets cause of it since then.
Was an 1" from the door, now 3/8" and 1/4" when opened.
Consider that in either level or pitched upward. Even with the tires, help keep low obstacles from hitting the doors from the sides and making through tight areas.

If you using them as just a step and trying to keep your Pants and Legs clean, best to become a clean freak like LTDSC and keep them clean at all times.

I plan on fabbing my own, and I want it to stick out far enough to be just a little narrower than my rear tires (rears have 1.5" wheel spacers) and low enough to be used as steps, but still be able to perform its rock slider duties. All in all, it just sounds like what you want them to do
