Sliders or skids for Moab/ Colorado trip?

Hey everyone, I'm going on a trip to Moab and Colorado soon and deciding whether to get sliders or skids. I can't afford both right now, so I was wondering if sliders with stock trail skids are okay or if new skids would be better?

Sliders. If you start getting hung up underneath you can just turn around, and your stock skids should protect you fine if that happens. Sliding into a rock and dinging a door or sill is way easier in my experience.
 
I'd also vote for sliders. The trail skids are fine for most use. Especially in Moab where the rocks are mostly smooth. Sliders are a better place to spend your $ if you only are adding one or the other.
 
Yep, agreed. Sliders.

Unless you actively look for it, very few rocks reach up and bite in Moab. Sliders are for hang ups or ledges.

I miss that red rock...
 
Sliders. You lack any protection for door sill whereas you have skids, albeit thin skids. Pound your factory skids good then one day replace them. Have a method to madness.

Yep, sliders. You can run down to Metal Tech in Newburg, OR to save on shipping. I run their sliders and have put them to the test in Moab. They can handle the abuse.
 
I was thinking this same exact question. So this is great timing.

I'm thinking of RCI since I'm in CO, but RSG started offering their own sliders. RSG is a local Toyota 4x4 shop in Lakewood, CO. The RSG sliders offer a flat and angled option. The flat slider also doubles as a step. Where as the angled option tucks up to the rocker panel.

Right now I'm leaning towards the flat option. It would be nice to stand on while loading/unloading my roof box. It's a pain to stand on the rear door sill.

I've been in the RSG shop quite a bit the past couple of weeks, and those sliders look so good in person.

What kind of trail do you plan to do? If you are a beginner, and it would be your first time in Moab, there are plenty of fantastic easy trails to do. I went there with my stock 4Runner and even did the east half of the White Rim Road.
 
Sliders first, always. Cheap insurance.

I'd put a t-case skid on the short list, too. The exhaust crossover pipe is stupid exposed and the low point in your breakover angle. Toyota has been doing that for a long time and I just don't get it.
 
I did On Top of the World, Hells Revenge, and Canyonlands without rocksliders or skids. Everything is fine. No damage.
But if I had to choose, I would go Sliders.
OutgearSolutions makes sliders as well at a very good price.
 
Buy a set of RCI sliders (I love mine), make an appointment to have them installed when you get to CO, save big $$$ on shipping.

FWIW I have the RCI sliders and they're incredible. Like you said, they're angled and tucked up to the truck but I will say it's not bad using them as a step to get up into your roofbox or roof rack. The RSG flat is going to make it much easier on you but I wonder how far they'll stick out. I still knock my RCI sliders getting in and out of the truck even tucked up against the body like that.
 
Thanks everyone. I went with 4x4 innovations sliders on a group buy here on the forum. They were the only company I saw that has some legit videos of testing of their product which gave me some confidence haha.
