sliding cargo mat or 3rd row seating mandatory?

We are interested in buying a 2014 4Runner Trail Edition. Today our local dealer in Pensacola informed us that Toyota only builds 4Runners with the sliding cargo mat option or the 3rd row seating option and that one cannot order them with the standard deck as shown in the Toyota brochure and website. This seems highly suspect to me.

Thanks in advance.

Cargo area options

When I purchased my 2012 Trail Edition-the only option was the sliding tray. The third row seat or standard deck were the options for the SR5 and Limited. I'm not sure if Toyota changed those options since 2012.

You're only option is the sliding rear deck on the Trail Edition. We just priced one out a couple days ago.

Thanks. I have a hard time understanding why one cannot order a Trail edition without either third row or the cargo slider. I get the sense the dealer is clueless.

Sliding tray removed

The tray can be removed but I don't think it ever makes it like it was never there.

My guess that TE only comes with the sliding tray is just like the reason 10-13 Canadian SR5 had the trail edition exterior package without the chrome accents.

I really wanted the sliding cargo tray and had to look far and wide to find it on a trail premium.

Different regions outfit them differently but I don't think --pretty sure-- that you have to get either the cargo tray or the 3rd seat. It did seem like a lot of the trails in the southeast region had the sliding cargo tray...but most other regions absolutely did not.

By sliding cargo mat, do you mean the cargo divider? This is an additional option that can be added for an extra $150 (I think $150). Look at the link below to see what I'm talking about. You can build one there and see all the options. Pretty sure what you're talking about is an option you can add on.

Also, third row seating is option on the SR5, SR5 Premium, and Limited only. This is not even option on the Trail editions; Trail or Trail Premium.

It's not a region thing at all (at least not in the US)! It's on ordering thing, and that's it. It doesn't matter where you live, the 4runners can all be ordered with the exact same options. If you're looking at 4runners on a lot that the dealer ordered, they ordered them without that option.

This being said, you can also order just the cargo slider if you want one. If you buy a new 4runner that doesn't have one, and you want one. You can order them through the parts department. They're also available for sale in every state; they're not region specific.

To help clarify things for everybody, follow the link below. This will answer all the questions you asking, and everything we're talking about.

2014 Toyota 4runner Brochure

The best thing to do would be to order one. You can order a 4runner build the exact way you want it. Should only take about 4 weeks to come in.

3rd row and sliding tray are mutually exclusive of each other.

since the floor pan of the 2014 is designed with the sliding tray/3rd row in mind, when you don't have the tray there is a hump between the 2nd row seats and the where the sliding tray/3rd row starts.

personally I only went with LE option/package as I didn't need the sliding tray and I never will carry that many people I need a 3rd row.

no one in the family drives the 4runner but me period !!! and I never need to have more space than the family so 4 seats is enough. 80-90% of the time its just me anyway.

and the sliding tray is optional on all models, 3rd row is N/A on the TE models if I remember correctly.

Sliding Deck 4Runner

I just took delivery of a 2014 SR5 4WD 4Runner. It has the sliding deck. Looking under the deck, looks like just rails installed, deck slides in, like a kitchen cabinet drawer, only the rails are laying flat. I believe this is a port installed option. Our delivery port here, Jacksonville. This is not a TE, and no third row. www.verobeachtoyota.com

Dealer in Vero Beach, FL, best deal for me. I shopped 3 Toyota dealers closer to my home. The guys at Vero easy to work with, no pressure, or BS phone calls and e-mails.

Just went back to their site, narrowed the inventory, showing a TE Premium with sliding deck. These are in SE Toyotas inventory. I am sure all dealers in the SE region pull from this inventory.

I don't see why you can't order one any way you want.

I had noticed that when I was shopping for my trail premium all the dealers who are in the southeast district seem to have vehicles with the sliding cargo tray installed.

The one I bought came from Virginia and had running boards installed but no sliding cargo tray.
