Sliding Cargo Tray - Not available on '16's?

I have not posted here in a long time! I was thinking of trading my my current '10 for a '16 but the dealership said that basically there was only 1 4R in the region with the tray as they had to be built from the factory that way, and very few were. Obviously the tray is not something they can install at the port, have people found this to be true - '16's basically with no tray? I uses mine a lot and would like my next one to to have it as well. I am also thinking of holding out to see what the '17's have to offer, but for this post I'm curious about the tray in the latest models.

Odd, when I was looking a few weeks ago they all seemed to have it. Mostly SR5. I wasn't wanting one so I was looking at other options.
 
Yeah, 2016s have them, mine does. As noted, they have to be ordered from teh factory wiht it. If you are going to trader your 2010 in on a 2016, just remove yours from the old one and install it on the new one. Guess ya gotta see if there are any holes needed adding in the floor though.

Hmm, so this might be a regional issue then - being mine does not have many! I remember a number of years back certain people were having problems finding what they wanted in their region.

Not a 'simple' swap from what I know, plus doubt the dealership would be happy with the mod, lol!
 
My 16' TRD PRO 4runner has it. Was installed from the Factory, and included a up-charge as an add-on accessory item. Someone did an "install" thread on here, and it looked pretty difficult to perform.

I'll be honest - I've used this function 5 times since ownership. It doesn't pull-out that far. (gross)

That was my big turn off about it too. I was wanting it to extend at least as wide as it the shelf actually is but it is only a few inches. And the wife agreed, a few inches just doesn't justify the price. (This thread now turns into a sexual innuendo thread) :welcome:
 
It is definitely a regional thing. Here is Gulf States it is very common. I don't have a '16, but I've seen it in most '16 TRDPro's and many Trails and SR5's.
 
I am in Arizona and had to order it from the factory to get the sliding rear cargo tray on a Trail Premium. It was a must have for the wife and I as it makes the floor level with the 2nd row seats down. The good news is my '16 Classic Silver with KDSS and the cargo tray is scheduled to arrive in port on 11/30 local dealer delivery 12/4 - 12/10 Can't wait to pick it up!
 
both of my 2016 TRDPs came with them. My wife mostly gets to drive them, but I did actually find it useful once. I was heaving something heavy in there, and pulled the tray out to do it.

Shrug. It is a neat feature, but I am not sure I would pay for it specifically if ordering.
 
Was at a dealership last week in the southeast and they only had SR5's, about 9 of them. Every one of them had the slide out. The salesman said that is how the dealership orders them.
 
It's garbage.

It's slightly tilted, so anything sitting by the liftgate will spill out when you open it. It rattles, shit gets into the rails and binds them up. It has a weight limit, so throwing heavy items in there will break it (I hauled a gun safe in there and now it's broken and won't move), there were no good commercially available covers for that thing for ages, stuff gets under it--I have dog treats and ammo rattling around under there...

Essentially it's one of those things some misguided focus group invented to help womenfolk get groceries out of the vehicle, because these things get sold by the thousands in 2WD trim in places like Mobile, AL where they get used as very expensive wagons.

Interesting, mine slides out a considerable amount, more than 'a few inches'. I noticed before, and even still today, it seems people either love it or hate it. I do agree, stuff does get under the tray but it takes about 5 minutes (with the right tools) to pop the tray out and clean everything under the tray & track. I will have to go look at one in person to see if I like it without the tray and compare mine side by side. I have used my tray a decent bit and I would like the next one to have it, but it might not be a deal breaker...will have to see. Thanks for the responses!
 
I don't use mine too much, but I like it when I do. I'd say it pulls out more than 'a few inches'. I do like that it makes the whole floor flat and you also get the bonus storage compartment behind the rear seats.

I use to have the issue with stuff rolling off it and out the gate, or under the tray, but I bought the oem all season cover and it has lips on it so its all good now.

I have had a 4Runner with the tray and without the tray. Both have their advantages.
The biggest advantage to "not" having the tray is additional load capacity. I haul my bike in the back when traveling long distances and the height from bottom of shock to top of bars is critical. Yes, the tray only takes up a few inches of vertical space but those few inches are critical when hauling a TV, washer or dryer, mountain bike, lawn mower or other small machine, boxes, etc.

I liked the tray for what it was and used it a few times. The advantages, at least for me, are not enough to want the tray again. And yes, it does eventually require more maintenance if only to disassemble it to clean under it.
 
I ordered my '15 TP with literally every option checked, and one I really wanted was the sliding rear tray. At the time of order I was told that due to regional issues (at a dealer in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia) the dealer couldn't order the sliding tray from the factory, but they would be able to order & install it separately once the truck arrived at the dealer. So, I paid a premium for this option in with my overall purchase price. Fast forward to when the truck arrived off the boat and the dealer started getting into it, it turns out they didn't want to tackle the install afterall. The dealer can't order this part as a 'kit', and in order to install separately from scratch you basically have to order all of the pieces & parts separately (the tray, the tracks, the many bolts & pieces of hardware, etc.). In the end, they wrote me a check to credit back what I had paid for this option, plus a little extra for the headache (they are good folks).

Even though I enjoy my added cargo height out back, I still find myself wanting this feature from time to time.
 
I have a complete setup (tracks/tray/cargo bins) available since I converted to cargo drawers. In case someone wants them locally I can give you a good price on them. Shipping might be a little cost prohibitive but if you're willing to pay we can make a deal.
