Sliding cargo tray owners: Asking the real question

Has anyone found any real solid use for the little storage area under the flap behind the sliding tray? I’ve heard people say they put stuff like large zip ties in there but I’m more wondering if you’ve found any long tools that fit perfectly or anything else that’s annoying elsewhere.

Forget the jumper cables and get one of these. Very thin and works fantastic. Never needed for me but has saved others. Every time the person I am jumping wants to know where I got it and get one for themselves. Just remove the case it comes in and put it in a ziploc bag or something like that. I put mine in the little hidden compartment but this should fit under the sliding rear cargo deck too. As small as it is you wouldn't think it would work, but it does. Keeps a charge a long time too. Lithium.

I mostly had ratchet straps, paracord and a tool for my trailer hitch. I wish I have this storage in my 2016.

I also put some cargo net and hooks (in a small bag) underneath the tray. It was also an excellent hiding storage for my laptop when needed.

In the long thin storage, I have three tool bags, under the sliding tray, I have all my recovery shackles and a padded kneeling mat (hard plastic on one side and thick padding on the other—great for hot or rocky ground)

Solid setup. I was wondering about putting a mat like that under the tray but I was only thinking of using it under items on my roof rack to protect my roof. Might try to disassemble my hi lift jack and fit as much under the tray as possible if I get adventurous.

The space under the tray is limited and I doubt that any part of your Hilift fit under. If I remember, it's about under an inch in height.

Not sure if your "escort" will fit. You would have to cut her up in little pieces and that would be a whole other problem!!! ;-)

I was in a love/hate relationship with it. Loading it after going to Costco was great or during winter to not get my pants dirty on the bumper. But loading it for camping and stuff falling behind/underneath was a pain.
