Slight water leak.. water pump or???

I have a 2004 V6 2wd. It only has 76K on it.

I have a very slight water leak, at the front of the engine. I can see some pink buildup under the crank pully and on the oil pan. I am also losing a bit of water out of the overflow tank over time.

I'm about to buy a new water pump and gasket, but is there anything else that could leak on the front of the v6 (sensors, small coolant lines, etc)?

It does not appear to be coming from the thermostat housing, or any of the small hoses that go to the top of the water pump.

Any advice would be helpful, Thanks!

I am having similar issue. I go out each morning to a 2" round wet spot under passenger side front on the driveway. Overflow is slowly emptying, then I refill it. I don't see any leaks though on the hoses, water pump or thermostat housing.

Never seen this myself but you could go to your local auto store and buy Leak Detection Dye you put in the coolant and when it leaks it will leave behind a glow when using a UV Light. So basically if its coming from a hose then you will see where it comes from that hose, then drips elsewhere and so on. It illuminates when a UV Light is shined in the area. All you do is follow the traces left behind and even if it dries it will leave behind a trace.

And it works really well for small hard to see with your eye type of leaks.

Have your cooling system pressure tested. With the system under pressure you may be able to track down the slow leak in your cooling system. If the system does not hold steady specified pressure, and you cannot visually find the leak, then try the Dye Leak detection method.

Just to update here - It was the water pump, it was leaking out of the weep hole. Seems odd for such low mileage, but if thats is the only problem I have with it I'll be more than happy.

I changed it out last weekend and no signs of leakage since.

Does seem like a premature WP failure. I have a 2wd 2005 SR5 with 150,000 miles and am on the original water pump. I have a new WP with steel gasket + the thermostat housing for when the WP in there now fails.

Sounds like your WP bearing went bad. Luckily it is not an overly expensive part. uke:
