Slotted and Dimpled Rotors

hello, has anyone put dimpled and slotted rotors on their 4runner without any issues? i put all 4 plus pads and new calipers on the front and i get a bad vibration in steering wheel and pedal when braking hard over 50mph. dealer told me the aftermarket slotted and dimpled rotors were the culprit. i find that hard to believe. any input from anyone? i have an 03 limited V8 all wheel drive.

There might be a problem with the rotors....but is has nothing to do with them being slotted or dimpled. They could just be warped. How old are they???

I did drilled and slotted and they have worked great for me. No vibration at all. Maybe you got a bad set, sounds like they are warped.

my uncle is gonna check the runnout tomorrow and we are gonna change the pads and put WAGNER THERMO QUIET BRAKE PADS CERAMIC because i got the rotors from brakeperformance.com and they came with free pads.....someone told me the free ones are junk.

Doubt it's the pads....But Wagner makes excellent pads. Been using them for over 30 years....NEVER had a problem.

Slotted or drilled rotors are a waste of money, and won't improve feel or performance at all.

That said your rotors are probably fine and not warped. The problem was the bed in of your new pads and rotors... the cheap pads you got left uneven deposits on the rotors, and that is what you are feeling in the pedal.

When you change to the new pads you will want to have the rotors turned, or you can sand the rotors with 150 grit sand paper and a sanding block to scuff the surface. This will remove alot of the old pad material and accelerate the bed in of your new pads.

When you get your new pads on go out and do 5 hard stops from 65 MPH to about 20 MPH, then cruise home and let the brakes fully cool off. Try not to fully stop unless you have to on the way home.

heres my ride

heres an update.....changed pads had the same vibration..........changed rotors to solid centric rotors solved my problems............learned expensive lesson no slotted and dimpled rotors for an 03 4runner limited V8 all wheel drive they just dont work.

The lesson is dont by crappy chinese rotors :) Always spend a few extra bucks for a known brand name blanks.

The same goes for pads honestly.

i have over 1000+ miles on slot and drilled rotors from brakemotive, did you happen to bed the new pads and rotors correctly, i do not experience any vibration, only better stopping power. where did you get the brake setup from anyway? cheap stuff gets cheap quality. i have 22s and its no problem with stopping, this is slot and drilled with ebc greenstuff pads.

The rest of your post is irrelevant after making a stupid statement like this.

The rest of his post is exactly right, actually. And so's his comment about the rotors. Unless you're driving your junk on a race track, you aren't braking hard enough or frequently enough for the slotted/drilled rotors to make a difference.

I agreed with the rest of his post, however you both are wrong on slotted rotors. I drove for four years on the stock brakes, and now have about 4.5 years on my new setup. There was a significant improvement in braking performance. Maybe the way you drive it won't matter, but the way I drive here in the mountains, you can tell the benefit.

I have EBC slotted and dimpled I have the same problem

same problems as me? steering wheel shake when u apply heavy braking? i got rid of them and went back to solid something about the v8's with all wheel drive they just dont work..

Yeah I put about 5000 miles on them they shake like hell now I'm just going to go for something normal again it's a shame because I bought them so they wouldn't warp
