Man. If you had not told me that you put a new battery in, I would have said "BATTERY!"....

Hmmmm. Electrical circuits and electrical transmission are helped, not hurt, by cold. Cold hurts/kills a weak battery more due to the way cold impacts the chemicals in the battery that actually stores the power. Your starter doesn't have much in the way of things that nominal cold would hurt. Not talking 100 below or some insane cold. I mean, the brushes and the solenoid can stick, but I have never heard of a cold snap "killing" one.

If you know for sure it's not the battery, then I'd say it's probably not related to the weather.

Check your grounds, then check the starter writeup on 4crawlers page. It's got practically everything you ever need to know about starting problems.

Coldest night last night -- this morning mine turned over no problem, but had trouble catching, took a few key turns ... what's wrong?

Cold Start injector.

On older fuel injected engines, a separate "cold start" injector is used to spray additional fuel into the intake manifold when a cold engine is first started. If this injector is not working, the engine can be hard to start. The injector is controlled by a timer and relay, so if either of these components is defective it can prevent the cold start injector from doing its job, too.

In your situation, you can use some "cold start spray"; you spray it directly into the intake. Pull the air filter up a wee bit, spray some in and it should start right up.

Exactly. Lift the filter just a bit. The can will tell you, 1 or 2 seconds is all you need. It should act as a manual form to the cold start injectors, since all it does is add a bit more fuel to help start in cold conditions.
