Sluggish 2006 SE

Hey guys, i have recently purchased a 2006 SE V6. 45k mi

I feel like it's very sluggish. If i'm going up a hill, or just cruising, i really have to push the gas significantly down in order to hold my speed or accelerate more than just a crawl.

The motor doesn't feel like it wants to go.

I brought it to the dealer and they claimed it's because there is no more throttle cable and it's an electronic throttle sensor. I don't trust them for sh*t. I had them fix my window motor (noisey) and alignment and they did neither properly.

I feel like the guy that had it before me drove it really freaking hard. Vibrations come from bumps. i think buying it may have been a $22,000 mistake.

I'm assuming the air filter is clean. It's a V6, did it get new spark plugs at 30k? Did you try a reset of the ECM?

I'd look at/try those three things and make sure the tires are inflated properly. The V6's aren't race ready but they aren't slouches either...

If the alignment is way off that'll make it roll hard too...

Definitely not saying it's a "slouch" in that sense. I feel like the gas pedal has a very long reach, and when i press it down hard it feels like it doesn't want to be. hard to explain.

i will do those three things.

Holy smokes, if you bought it recently they took you to the cleaners!

Throttle cables vs an electric throttle valve is a bogus explanation. The only time the system would have any effect that you would notice is when the vehicle is in a severe skid and it decides to close the throttle valve.

I'd try going in again and asking them what it would be if it was NOT the electronic throttle. The V6 is no slouch, it should be pulling just fine, especially with as low mileage as yours has

i have one of those unconditional warranties also. i'm thinking about taking it to a shop and having them give me an independent diagnosis. if i bring it back to this dealership, i'd have a feeling they wouldn't fix it though. just sucks.

ECM Reset - Disconnect battery and wait 20-30 minutes or so?

Yes... There's also a fuse in the underhood block labeled Fuel Injection or Engine Computer or something real obvious. It's on the row closest to the battery. I think it's a 20amp fuse. You can pull that for 20-30minutes and avoid re-doing the radio, clock, windows and sunroof.

I feel the same way. I have an '05 Ltd with 53k and going up a hill feels very sluggish unless i really press the gas. Maybe it's me getting used to driving a 5 speed automatic (which i've never done before). *watching*

Have you driven any other V6 4Runners as a comparison?

How long have you had it and what type of vehicle did you drive prior?

I just got my first 4Runner a few weeks ago. My previous car was a Subaru Legacy GT 5 speed. By comparison, my V8 4Runner feels like a dog even though I'm loving every minute of it so far.
