Here’s some quick info on how I mounted my smart phone in my 5th gen in case it inspires further ideas. I’m very happy with it and find that it puts my phone within easy reach and allows me to access all the web features when it’s safe to do so. I’d recommend a similar solution if any new members are thinking through this.
I purchased an Arkon SM523-G phone mount from Amazon ($13) that fits in the front cup holder.
Install an additional 12v plug using the info in a previous thread.
Using a standard car plug and in my case a 90 degree adapter to keep the cords cleaner, the phone gets juice.
The end result is simple, but effective.
