Smell after Timing belt replacement

I replaced my timing belt, idlers, waterpump, thermostat, radiator and drive belts over the weekend. Everything went pretty well except for the crank bolt, which was a biatch. The truck runs fine with no leaks at all. The only problem is that I smell a burning smell sometimes after hard acceleration. I know the belt is on properly. The drive belts for the generator, AC and power steering were also replaced. ANyone know if this could be "normal" for a few days after replacement?

I've changed mine twice so far with no burning smell after. You don't mention if it's rubber, fluids (like antifreeze) or what kind of burning smell. I'm guessing you'd mention if the drive belts were making any noise.

The belts are not making any noise and seem tight enough. They don't bend more than a sixteenth of an inch when I press on them. I can't smell it until I park it in the enclosed garage.. smells like rubber. I changed the idlers, WP and thermostat. The truck is not running hot. I don't think it's possible to get the belt too tight.

How much play should there be if a 1/16" is too tight? Just curious.

Around 3/16 ~ 1/4" of deflection for new belts, 3/8" ~ 1/2" for used belts. You don't want to get those belts too tight, or bye bye to the bearings in the AC compressor and/or power steering pump.

Mine (new) are somewhere round 1/4-1/2".... I've never measured ruler-wise, just put them 'bout so. You get a feel for it. You'd know you got them too loose if they slipped (squealed) and you'd need to tighten them a little more.

My husband's a/c belt's like that now and he needs to adjust it, a little squeal when he initially turns the a/c on.
