I just got a smitty. It'll work for what I need. Plus I like that it's all black.

both will serve well depending on how your going to use it. if you don't need to use the winch to much the smittybuild will last a long time. if you are going to be winching out of deep mud or up steep climbs every weekend get the warn.

That Smittybilt was at the 4wd parts show for $279 with cover included . For no more than most of us would actually use one that unit would likely serve you quite well.

If you actually intend to use the winch more than once in awhile I think the Warn unit would be better in the long run however, it's all relative. Compare line speed/weight of the units and so on....depends what is most important to you.

Some have advised that the Runners front frame could use some reinforcing if you intend to winch regularly. Just saying...there is more to winching than most folks realize.:rant:

Actually, I've had pretty bad luck with my Warn. It has left me stranded three times so far, although one of the times was due to my stupidity. The first time, it was because of a bad solenoid, the second, because of a bad remote. The third time the cable sheared the keeper bolt off of the drum, but that was my fault (unspooled too far).

I have had less then stellar luck with Warn, but they do have great customer service, which I can attest to...

I have no experience with Smittybilt winches, but have had good luck with all the other Smittybilt products that I have owned.

Warn..... I debated this same thing, and I ended up using my winch every month. You may need your winch when things are going south......... I used mine when I was stuck in a river with water over my solenoid box and winch and it still woked. That's was impressive enough for me

I've heard nothing but GREAT reviews on the Smittybilt XRC8...and for the price, you can't beat it.
It's what I will be outfitting my truck with in the near future.
