I just installed one in my hefty fabworks bumper. I haven't used it, so i can't give you any feedback on it, other than the hook that it comes with doesn't come off easily. needs to be cut, or you have to replace the line.
 
Same here. I recently installed one in a Relentless bumper. Other than spooling in the line I haven't had a chance to test it out yet.

I used mine this past weekend to pull out very high centered 5th gen from the ditch. He has full front and rear steal bumpers, sliders, rack, and was loaded up. The winch did just fine. Pulls in a little slow, but it did its job and didn't cost me 1300 dollars.
 
I just installed one in my SSO slimline bumper last weekend. I haven't used it yet, but I'm very happy with the fit and finish, and it all seems to be well engineered. It's worth noting that my buddy who helped me install it had recently installed an earlier XRC 9500 model on his 2011 (he got a killer deal on it), and he commented that there were various practical upgrades versus his other than just the waterproofing/wireless (location of some electrical connections, switch, and some other things I can't recall).

It is annoying that I need to use an angle grinder to cut the hook to attach my Flatlink (coming soon). And the bolts that go with the X20 Fairlead don't fit the Factor 55 Fairlead so we had to make a quick trip to Home Depot. Weird/annoying. But overall I'm very happy for the price!

I know this post is a couple years old but I am trying to determine the pros and cons of the access cut outs in the SSO bumper. I live in CO and spend alot of time in the snow so thinking I really don't want the cut outs but am not sure of their value. Any thoughts?

I have one in a victory 4x4 bumper. I think its nice for the amount im going to use it. If your doing alot of off roading id do a warn. But the SB is nice and has ot of good features (wireless and waterproof) its just slower. I dont like how the battery installs on the controller but you can just do wired so its not really an issue.

I didnt like the hook it came with so i did a factor 55 flatlink. I dont think i NEEDED to do it, but for the amount im using it, the factor 55 stores better and protects the rope by having less exposed(i also added the rope guard).

Get the access holes. Even if you keep the radiator cover off (the plastic cover in the engine) you wont be able to reach everything. No one wants to unistall a bumper to fix something.

Example: if you have to remove the synthetic line to clean it reaching that set screw is going to suck if you can only reach above.

Appreciate the input - like you I don't intend to use the winch very often - just know at some point I WILL need it :) I had also heard about the Factor 55 Flatlink and woudl rather spend $$ on that and the SB versus only a Warn Winch. Between the SSO bumper, winch and the suspension change I am going to do (plus new rubber next year when my BFG AT K02s wear out) - I am trying to watch the overall budget. Dual battery, onboard compressor, switches, etc. will need to wait. I am retiring at the end of the year so will have time to make modifications but also spend more time in the mountains. Cheers.
 
Without access holes, it will be a pain to get to the switch and clutch lever from the radiator cover. Even though its wireless, you have to hit the master switch located on the control box, unless you want to have the winch always hot (which isn't recommended).

The x2o is legit for its price range. I have one and its been good to me so far. I run a flatlink and its not necessary. I only replaced my hook because it rusted to crap. If you plan on replacing the hook, you will have to cut it off. There are also other less alternatives to factor 55 if you so choose. I also have a warn epic hook that I was gifted and I do like that alot also.

Right now we are getting close to the holiday season, I would wait to see if you can catch it on sale. Good luck with your purchase.
 
Yes definitely get the access holes for the SSO bumper as can get to the clutch, rope, switch hook up if dont use wirelessly. Installed the Smittybilt X20 waterproof winch and used it this weekend to pull a jeep out that had flipped over in the recent snowstorm here in CO. Worked flawlessly. Will replace the hook with a factor 55 ultrahook however.

Well said. Recently installed the Victory 4x4 Blitz bumper and the XO2 12K winch with the Factor 55 fairlead and flatlink. Used twice, once on myself and once on a buddy with an old 2door jeep. No sweat recovery either time.
That said, without the access holes for the clutch and the master switch, it would have been much more difficult to access the controls.
 
Just a update:

my shittybuilt still works great. Just went to clean it up and make sure it is in good working order for an upcoming trip.

I ditched the factor 55 flatlink and went back to a warn hook.

After using the winch a few times, and using both a hook and flatlink, the hook works better for my applications. Although, their isn't anything sexy about a hook...unless you are a pirate.

^ Glad to hear your SB x20 is still treating you well. I recently ordered one, but since I’m in for a bit of a wait for SSO to ship my Slimline bumper, I won’t be putting my x20 to any use for a while.

How long the wait on the bumper?
 
SSO says around 10-12 weeks, but I’m hoping it’s an over estimate and it will actually be a little shorter. I’ve had to play the waiting game a few times before with some previous orders, so not a big deal if the 10-12 weeks ends up being accurate.
