I am pretty close to buying a 1999 4runner sr5 2WD, with 80k miles.
My only hesitation is that, during the pre-purchase inspection, the mechanic notified me that the vehicle is not able to pass smog.
Since it was last taken to the Toyota dealership, two of the monitors have not reset, the EVAP and the catalytic converter.
The owner took the car to the dealership 2 months ago and has driven 500 miles on it since, and it looks like that should have reset all of the monitors by now. I read that the catalytic converter can go bad if it has not been driven enough, I wonder if that is a possibility? Do you think the fact that those two monitors have not reset in 500 miles is worrisome?
