Smog tests, headers and y-pipe??

Ok so I am really interested in getting the Doug Thorley long tube headers for my runner. If I get those and the URD cat simulators as I understand my CEL wont come on although my question is would the truck pass smog?

Down the road I would like to get the URD off road Y-pipe as well but that would eliminate all cats alltogether and I am certain it wouldnt pass smog then although the y-pipe would be easier to re-install.

As long you don't get a sniff test in your state, a CEL eliminator will get you through.

Well if I were in a state with a sniff test would a truck with long tube headers, cat sim, and factory y-pipe pass?

Funny I just noticed you are in MD and thats where my parents live and thats where I have my 86 pickup as well. THats probably where I will register my 4Runner when I get back from Germany. AS I remember it I think the newer vehicles just had to show up for inspection but not smog tested. How are you passing the MD smog?

MD is pretty easy. There is no regular vehicle inspection in this state unless you buy private party used or move in. Smog testing is done every two years. If you have an OBDII vehicle they pretty much just plug you in to the code reader. Better yet is if you pull into the lane for AWD vehicles then they won't bother to roller dyno it and push it on through.

In my scenario, the check engine light isn't on at all, and the simulator tells them that my catalyst's are working better than ever.

Cool good to know, thanks a lot. I am going to go the DT long tube header with sim route than. Maybe down the road I amy get the y-pipe and exchange to stock if needed for tests. Headers are going to be done soon though. I bet ina year or two anyways the 4R will probably have its own y-pipe available.
