Sniv's Custom Long Travel Build

What are your plans for the rear? I can tell you from experience the 14" or so I pull on my front is severely limited by the rear end. Unless your planning a full rear end overhaul as well it wouldn't be worth it to be able to cycle that much up front.

^^^ Especially true for high speed stuff, you want more travel in the back than in the front to keep the front end floating over stuff while the back stays planted. Similar to a dirt bike over whoops. I know Sniv's usage is more mixed than the average LT rig, but it's something to factor in...

Yea, I have big plans for the rear so it can match the front, but it'll be awhile until that happens since obviously it's taken half a year to get the funds to start the work on the front... and I want lockers by the time winter comes around since I do a lot of snow wheeling.

By the way Dezert4Runner, that Taco is sick!!! Don't worry about hijacking anything, those threads you posted are awesome to read through :D

Yea, that's why I have my rear end torn down right now. I'm in the process of adding a bigger axle and pulling 18" of travel in the rear. A few more weeks and I should have it all back together.

How're you going about it? My current plan when the time comes is installed a roll bar/beginning of a cage and have shocks go into the cab and either to the axle or to trailing arms.

I'll have shocks mounted outside the frame rails and punch up thru the cab. They will tie into a roll cage. It might just be a rear cage for now, but i have a sequoia axle hanging from f67 springs. At full droop I'm looking at around 22" from bottom of the frame to the top of the axle.

For the first time since moving to Utah I went wheeling, it'd been like a month which is about 28 days longer than normal!

Sunday went to Mount Logan up Providence Canyon with my roommates Tacoma.

Then yesterday went up Millville Canyon and down Providence Canyon and this time Cartzo 1G was fixed and a girl we know with a Jeep came.

My front shocks are completely gone. And after the first outing my power steering is gone, not sure if the rack is finally out or the pump is dead again (just replaced it 2 months ago...). If my rack goes out I'll swap in a Tundra rack or something.

Also, right now the money is in the works to start ordering for LT. Priority right now is shocks since they have around a 2 week lead time. Just going with some cheap FOA shocks (though they have good reviews in the past year or two). 2.5 10" dual rate remote resi coilovers with high temp seals, fine threaded tubes, black anodized, etc. Each one is $270 a piece which isn't bad. Right now, without bump stops (which I hope to get used for front and back) the ready to roll price with contingency is looking at just shy of $2000 for the full kit and dual rate coilovers. Hopefully that target ends up being high, and hopefully this thread will actually start being impressive over the next three weeks

Just bought some big ole coilovers for Cartzo and I. His turn to buy the joints. We're sitting here in shock at the amount of money we just spent  Probably won't update until we start getting parts in.

This is the second plate for the LCA Cartzo has cut. The first ones dimensions were messed up so I went back through and fixed it. This one is correct (as far as we can tell without starting to take apart the stock suspension). Nothing too exciting to look at, but our first set of hardware for LT!

Also bought two Tundra axles today so I can reference how much angle I can pull from the CV.

These are "new" and not remans, so there was no core charge... $80 per axle and lifetime warranty from O'Reilly, not that I plan on breaking a CV meant for a V8. So if anyone knows anyone in northern Utah or nearby who needs some CVs, I'm gonna have an original OEM I rebooted and an Autozone (I think) for sale soon--or if someone wants to pay for shipping.

Sexy
Why not buy a LT kit. Use the dimensions for your build then ether sell it or return it. And have your built lt kit for much less.
I do that a lot with parts.

I certainly could, but then I would have to dish out $3000 which I can't afford :D

And I like the designing and applying the engineering I'm learning and reading up on suspension design that went into this. Cartzo and I also want to start making kits once we get mine and his 1st gen LT made, since they're actually pretty simple and could be sold way for way less than kits on the market while still rivaling them in performance (stiffness/weight) and I'd rather not copy someone if we end up doing that. Otherwise, I probably would just buy one and copy it and sell it!

Shocks should be here this week. Another box from poly tomorrow and then another on Friday. Braided brake lines for LT should be in today too.
