Snorkel Cost?

There about $350. Good luck finding a used one(Ive been looking). Most people that put em on dont sell em because where you have to cut into the fender to install them

when people part them out after crashes are the best time for used
 
on yota tech there is a write up for a $10 snorkel and something about an internal snorkel set-up i was briefly checking these out the other day but as i'm far from that point now i didn't commit much of it to memory, have you considered these options?

just thinking of mods i could do i didnt know if i could get a snorkel for under 300
 
i have pondered going to an internal snorkel... so if i can find someone with a black fender with the limited flares i might consider a trade

of course then there are the holes in the a piller to fill also....
 
im currently doing my internal snorkel right now, but what im doing instead of what the 10 one is im using the existing tube thats already in the fender to do it, and im liking the way its turning out its quite easy this way if you have the "taco tube"

im doing this also is because i was going to run into a problem, i dont have fiberglass fenders so i was going to get that big joint to fit in the front and the rear i cut the whole bigger to fit half that 90 degree joint into the cab instead of having a little pipe like the write up.

hope this encourages others to try it :)

and my antenna doesnt work, i use my ipod only so im just going to take it off.

Ive read on Yotatech a long time ago that the internal works great but if water gets on the inside to where the passenger's feet are then it renders worthless and i also read that its really loud in the cab. I would get so tired of a drone from that...
 
When have any of you guys running a snorkel been in water deep enough to justify it? Just curious.

IMHO, a snorkel is the most useless mod you can do to a 4runner. Since 99% of people who run them will never need it. Not to mention, but I am also curious what you've done to seal up every electrical connection, how you waterproofed your ECU, fuse panel, stereo, coil packs, ignitor, etc.

Without doing all of it, its useless.

Or is it just for looks?
 
I can't speak for ones with a snorkel since I don't have one, but I can speak for myself and why I'm considering one.

I haven't had the occasion to need a snorkel for the purposes of going underwater with my truck. I can say with some confidence that a lot of the more popular mods(lift, tires, bumpers, lights) are at least to some extent for looks. At least some of the reason I personally did these mods was to achieve a look. I like the way an expedition style rig looks and if I can do those things to mine without sacrificing the daily driver functionality then I think thats a win for me.

That being said, a snorkel is a pretty extreme mod. I had imagined that it might be a suitable replacement for my K&N intake that I'm not all that thrilled with while also enhancing my "look". I asked about the internal snorkel out of curiousity because I like to do a lot of research on a mod this big.

Maybe I'll never see water deep enough, but maybe I will. I kinda hope I do to be honest...and I hope by then I have all the stuff mentioned cared for.
 
I would like more info on snorkels too. I read some where that MPG actually improves with a snorkel. $350 is a bunch of dough that could be used on a Double Din Radio DVD player:snacker:

As far as electronics goes, I also read that the interior of the 4Runner will hold out momentary for your to cross the water hazard.

I can only imagine how loud an interior snorkel will be, I won't be trying that one.
 
Well i can say that it would have helped me at least twice during my old mudding days... My friends and i used to drive through huge muddy water puddles and my exhaust would always submerge and almost cut off my engine if i let go of the gas pedal. I dunno how often ill use it but i like the look of them and i figure it will help somewhat and the airflow would be nice to have.
 
I havent had any problems with it yet. And yes it does have a drone in the cab.

The reason I went with a snorkel isnt for looks. you cant even see it. But the main reason i did it was because i was having problems with my tube bumper not providing any protection against puddles. I was getting water into my intake from puddles from driving around town, not puddle jumping. so i decided to take on this mod, and i ended up having to even seal the drain holes on the bottom of the air box before it would stop the water.

Water was getting in and the cold water touching the MAF wire instantly re****ed the engine and threw the CEL. Thus with the mod i havent had any problems what so ever with water. im not trying to drive in the ocean or anything like that i know the limitations of my vehicle just i know small puddles will never pose a threat now.

I realize this thread is over 4 years old, but might as well continue it rather than starting anew.

I have been very curious about this internal snorkel idea. Do you have any more detail on how you made it?

In my opinion, I've thought up a "best of both worlds" setup. With my deck plate mod, I could plug the internal snorkel for on-road driving and then for watercrossings and such, plug the deckplate and open up the internal snorkel. Personally, I don't like the appearance of a traditional snorkel for a daily driver. Sure it looks "cool" but I think it's a bit over the top. I realize an interal snorkel becomes useless once the cab starts to fill with water, but I still feel like it would be a huge improvement over the stock intake location. I can think of many scenarios where I've either turned around or gone through water that's almost hood-height thinking "oh ****" where an internal snorkel would have worked just as well as a traditional snorkel.

You can use the same elbow piece into the airbox and it doesn't go all the way to the fire wall. It's the curved black piece on dewrunners pic
