Snorkel

Since we are probably not going to get a kit from Safari Snorkel, any thoughts on whether the FJ Cruiser would mate up?

I was wondering the same thing, I would love to have a snorkel. I almost drowned the engine a few months back offroading. A snorkel would def come in handy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought arb had one or was planning on having one in the works.

Correction, I just called ARB and the sales person said that it is unlikely that they will produce a snorkel since there are no 5th gen 4runners in Australia where they do the fittings.... And if that is the case THIS SUCKS!!!

I believe that is the same problem the 4th gen guys had. They had to retro fit one form the prado body (I think that was what they used, I am sure a 4th gen pro will provide the correct answer.)

Give it a month or so and I can see HARPER making something....The guy is amazing, i want to rent him out to do my truck up good!

AIRFLOW AMERICA Airflow america is going in production with a snorkel for the 4runner. They said they are possibly 3 to 4 months out since they are waiting for the molds to get back from australia.
 
they don't have anything posted on their website, guess'll check back in summer time. thanks for the post!

Yeah I gave the guy a call and he stated they are coming out with one for the FJ and 5th gen 4runner. They already took the measurements and got the mold and are waiting for the snorkel to be sent back for a final test fit before they go into production. He said the storms in Australia set back production another month or so.
 
Hadn't seen this thread before and got a bit excited about the prospect of a 5th gen snorkel. Unfortunately the Airflow America site linked above appears to be dead...
 
Moral of this story: Never trust a cyclist who tells you that the water is only "ankle deep".

I rounded the corner of this flooded road (out of view of the person taking pictures) and the water was over the tires.... Scared the **** outa me as I am a total noob in these situations... Snorkel would have been comforting. haha

I'm sure what he meant to say was "Ankle deep of one leg, and knee deep of the other!"

Cool pic though - just keep your momentum up and the bow wave in front of you. Our intakes are really high, if the water was that high you'd have a lot more to worry about!
 
I emailed them again. Maybe I will get a response this time. Just trying to gauge if they have a time line of any sort.

If I get a response I will post what they say here.

Cool BFLAN, I also emailed them. Hopefully getting multiple inquiries will motivate them to speed the process up a bit.

Man I hope so. This will be the 2nd time, and I never heard any response on the 1st.

I still want to try a couple safari snorkels and see if one would fit well enough. I just have not had the time to go to the store and attempt to see if they would order a couple in that I could try and allow me to return if none of them fit :)
 
Hi Ben,

We have the mold done for the newer 4runner but its further development date is still uncertain.

There are a few models ahead of it with higher volume, so the new 4runner is not a top priority in the new product development pipeline.

The Tacoma will come first, which should be soon and depending a little bit on its success, the 4 runner might be bumped ahead of its current competitors. Do not forget that our models compete with the whole world and sales usually drive priorities. Take a look at how many vehicles in the US have snorkels vs. Australia, South America, Africa. Even though we have more total vehicles sold, the percentage with snorkels is very low.

We will get there eventually, but today the date is uncertain.
