Snow tires on 20" Limited wheels

It's getting to be that time of the year, the snow is coming and the weekly drive through the Rocky Mountains to ski resorts is starting.

What do you guys recommend for snow tires on the factory 20's?

I have used Bridgestone Blizzaks DM-V1's for a few years. They have served me very well!

Great winter tires!
 
I appreciate the input but there's a lot of different Blizzak tires available, I'm looking for more specific personal experiences. And there's no way I'm going with All Seasons, specific snows are going to happen, it's just a matter of which and if I go with or without studs. A mountain steep narrow mountain pass in a snow storm is no joke.


Edit - I'm assuming your talking about the Bliazzaks from the first reply, for whatever reason the first reply didn't load on my phone

I'm currently using Yokohama iG51 on 17" steel rims, they perform well on any winter conditions.

Depending on the price of the 20" tires, you could get a 17" tire + rims cheaper and swap it yourself (I've done that on the XV Crosstrek of my girlfriend and saved about 200$).

Ive used DMV1's on my 96 FZJ80 and have them on 17's on my current 4Runner.

Fantastic tire. Always has bite and has never left me down.
 
Im running Blizzak DM-V1s and they are fantastic. I do the drive to and from the mountains a few times a week as i work for a ski hill in the area. We get some pretty wild winters here in Calgary (it has already hit at least -25 celcius) and I definitely recommend them.

I was running studded Nokian Hakkapeliittas on my Sequoia before i made the switch to my 4Runner and i would also recomend them. Pretty pricey tire though.
 
First, get yourself some steelies specifically for your winter tires, preferably 17". That'll open up the options for which tires you can run. It'll also be easier and less expensive in the long run than swapping tires on and off the same wheels.

Another vote for the Blizzak DM-V1's. I have them in the stock 20's size on my 14 Limited.

I drove them last winter in everything. Deep snow, ice, on a lake, ski areas etc. They made driving in the snow boring in a good way. The stock tires made stopping distances a butt puckering experience. Eeek!

I literally took the truck out on a frozen lake (packed snow covered), turned off traction control and tried to do a donut. It was an epic fail. The truck flipped over and fell through the ice. KIDDING! The truck just turned. Boring.

I also remember finding very few snow tires in the stock size, so that narrows things down.

I am debating about some cheap wheels with tires, it wouldn't be a cost savings as I don't pay anything to mount and balance tires, I'd just do it myself twice a year at work.

If I do a full separate wheel/tire package with sensors, correct me if I'm wrong but Toyota will have to program them everytime I'd swap right?
 
Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV

I have Nokian Hakkapeliitta R SUV (265X70X17) on SR5 wheels and would buy the same brand/model when it's time to change winter tires.

I think Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV is newer tire.
 
DM-V1 or nothing.

Unless you got the Techstream software and cable, you can't easily do it by yourself. I personally just ignore the warning light.

Dealer has to change TPMS codes, unless you have Techstream or know someone who does.
Only 4 codes accepted on Toyota 4Rs. Spare doesn't get one.
EVEN THOUGH LEXUS GETS EIGHT.

One note, Blizzak DM-V1's are directional tires, at least in my size. Make sure the tire technicians mount them in the proper direction, as you see on the side of the tires the rotation and the arrow. My first set, 2 of the 4 were facing in the wrong direction! There are differing schools of thought, as some don't view it as that big of a deal if they are facing the wrong way, but I have too much OCD to let that stand. Needless to say, I made them re-do it.

yeah not to hard to store 8 instead of 4. its only another 32 bytes for the data not including the registers to store those RFIDs.
 
I'm either going to go with Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1 (Studless) 245/60/20 or Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 SUV (Studded) 275/55/20 pending on what kind of pricing I can get through work on the 2 option
 
When I bought the truck, I just put the pressure sensors in a pressurized tube that I leave in the truck by the OEM jack. No more useless warning lights
