Snow Wheeling In Truckee

JUst got home a few days ago from a nice weekendup in truckee. as most of you know the snow has been dumping down like crazy up there all week. so much snow came down on friday (the night we drove up) that we didn't get in to truckee till 3:30am and we left sacramento at 10:30pm. we took HWY 80 up and it was closed in colfax so we had to take a detour on HWY 20 towards grass valley, so driving in grass valley in near white out conditions we got stopped a over a hour in because the road was closed and we had to go back to 80 since it was now open at 1am. anywho it was a long night...

-Saturday We Slept in and lounged-

Sunday,
we woke up to this-

so we then proceeded to dig ourselves out...

we were supposed to meet up with Woody in Washoe Valley that morning but shortly after grabbing some breakfast we found out the roads were closed. there was a slight possibility we could get to reno but it was guaranteed we were not coming back due to a avalanche.

so we found some unplowed roads and got to the fun!

ater in the day we met up with woody, phil, and miah and trekked through some snow..

at first woody was leading the group but we ran into a bit of trouble...

eventually he powered out and we switched positions so miah could go in the front and try to keep up some momentum to plow through the snow, heres what laid ahead for him to tackle...

it was around 4:30 and woody was in need to head back home, so he thought he would flip a u turn.... didn't quite work out as planned...

he was stuck for close to about 2 hours! and we tried everything in the book..

the trick that ended up working was eric was winching me from the rear, while woody was winching me from the front with use of a snatch block. it took some time but he finally erupted from that sink hole that kept him trapped for two hours!




finally able to turn around now as the time approached 6:30

that concludes most of my pics (well story telling ones)

i have a butt load more that my friends wife took, ill post them up soon...

Sweet time in the snow Josh! I didn't head up that weekend, but had the last 3 to Truckee/Reno. You must have caught the tail end of that big 45 car accident? It's dumping again today and probably most of the week. It's just rainy here in Sac-Town, but the news shows non-stop snow. Power Down!

Was there something leaking from the Lexus? It looked like there was some discolored snow underneath, in every pic of it.

the lex the only one that had any problems?

The Lexus was the only vehicle that had 33"s, the others were 35" and bigger. The Lexus is very capable but in the beginning he was leading the group through the snow since he was the only one that had chains, but the lower ground clearance proves insufficient. The second time woody got stuck, well I'm just gonna blame it on that heavy right foot he has!

Nope nothing was leaking, that was just mud and dirt

Yeah we heard that the next morning about just missing the bad accident!

I'm not suprised at all, people drive like freaking idiots! We had Honda accords and mustangs passing up going 10mph faster than we were and not that far up the road they were buried in the snow bank because they lost control. We just kept a steady pace and never had a issue

Awesome pics! I love the picture of your truck covered in snow. I was just up in Chico last weekend and that storm was ridiculous. Of course in Chico it was all rain and 70mph+ winds... trees and powerlines falling everywhere. I'm glad I got to see pics of what that storm did to the mountains!

My brother lives in Reno and has been enjoying the snow as well. As of yesterday he said they are going on 300 inches in the mountains.
Wish I was out there to enjoy that much snow!

everything is "stockish" compared to your arctic trucks!!

Your experience is deep snow, these guys are from California... maybe you could use your knowledge and comment helpfully or is your opinion that you need 40+ inch tires to travel in a few inches of snow on a country road?

I would love to have huge tires to float over the snow, but it's not practical for me, so I do what I can even if it means getting stuck.

Wow nice way to be a total ****!!!

Our trucks our built for all types of terrain not just snow like your lame ass jalopy, you can do one thing basically and that all you can do, so maybe in the future you can just keep your comments to yourself
