snowboarders read!!

i am looking for a snowboard rack that will fit 4 snowboards. i bought the thule 91725 6 ski 4 snowboard rack but i did not get enough clearence for the binding when u "sandwiched" them..does anyone have one that does not have this promblem? maybe a yakima... i called thule to see if they have any elevaters but they did not...anyone know?

Yes!! they do fold down and i still dont have clearence...
 
oh i see, that sucks. but i have seen the snowboard racks that has the added lift to them just forgot who makes them .. if u still haven't found anything out later .. i'll try to help u out if i see anything .
 
I don't know for sure if Thule have them or not, but Yakima snowboard/ski racks comes with 2 extension pieces that raise the racks up about 2-3 inches on one side. So instead of the rack laying horizontally on your crossbar, it is mounted at an angle to increase the clearance space underneath. My Yakima Powderhound SE came with them. I hope this helps
 
i plan on using snowboard bags to protect them form the elements... i dont really have the $$$$$ to drop on one of those.. what kind of box do you have vando45??
 
hey hank do you snowboard?.....because i was thinking if the one side is elevated that one side will have clearence for the bindings on that side and the other wont so there wouldnt be a point of getting it.. or am i wrong?
 
I have a yakima fatcat 6 and it has enough clearance without the extension piece. you're right it only raises on one side so if you have 4 boards that have bindings that don't clear the bottom then you are pretty limited. I have a buddy that uses flow bindings and i just mount it facing up.

Anyone have any pics? I need to get a rack for this season, since it's my first season with my 4runner. I want one that will work good, but that also looks sleek. I don't want a giant bulky one.
 
I have mounted 4 snowboards on my carrier, but it was mounted to the crossbars on my Yakima Megawarrior utility basket/rack, giving it more clearance. I haven't tried 4 boards with just the extensions. I think it might work for 3, but not 4.

BTW, we are finally getting some snow out here in So Cal (up in the mountains of course). I'll be heading out to Mountain High this Saturday! :D I can't wait. I gotta use my remaining last season's lift tickets as they extended the expiration date due to a dry winter last year!
 
Hahahaha dry winter? That's an understatement. It was HORRIBLE. The season was like 2 weeks long it seemed.

Hopefully it dumps a lot on Mt. High and Big Bear.

yup...they all fit. I have a four boards at my house that i can mount on the rack and take a pic if you want.

Just out of curiosity, what bindings do you have? the only bindings that i've have trouble with clearance are flow bindings that my buddy has.
 
I rock 4 boards on my rack. I got the THULE somethin' somethin' rack. Between my buds boards and mine I get all 4 without having to elevate the rack itself. Two of my friends have FLOWS and I rock rides and burtons. So, I just put the FLOWS up top and the other two down below. One time we went 5 deep and the 5th board fit diagonally in the rear PLUS all our gear. Haha, the only problem I have is when you throw ski's into the equation, then thats when it gets interesting. Because of this, I make him drive seperately!
 
Haha, I wouldn't put a board inside, that's why I need a rack. If a 5th person was coming i'd tell them to drive themselves.

Ha, thats why I said "one" time cuz it only happened once. The board was in a board bag so it was no biggie. The reason why I wouldln't do it again is because the 4r is only a midsize and have 3 grown a$$ men in the back all weighing over 200 wasn't a pretty or comfortable site!
