looking around looks like 210 is normal 'stock' trans temperture for 'HOT' Climates... I'm thinking that this will see MANY hot summer days, and I really don't want heat to destroy my trans, was gonna 'run both rad and external' but then thinking why not just run the biggest I can get...

I'm honestly thinking of doing one of the following...

x2 70266 side-by-side
or
70274....

thinking of the dual setup honestly... just do it once, I heard it's great up to 180* for a single, and I'm thinking a double will make it that much better...

I have read around and NO where can I find on the t4r.org sight of NOT enough heat for the trans to function properly... I do know the trans keeps lower gears until it's hot enough...

any thoughts?

Awesome! I might take you up on that, it's just too hot to work on my truck ATM as I don't have a garage I can pull into easily... someday when house is finished, I'll have it available.

Maybe a trail sometime, as I'm stock height I don't want to go too radical, and truck is new to me, so still working out the bugs.

moved a friend in the rain... rare for AZ, so why not? by the time we were loaded, the rain stopped.

upgrades

well, I did a seafoam treatment on gas, then ran a whole bottle through the intake and heard a 'clunk' dropping my heart, but then realize it was my wrench falling off the air box... :whistle:...

drove around and I'm still super rich!!... and my p0420 is back with vengeance... even worse than before seafoam...already replaced both sensors with new denso's from amazon. got one cat-convrt in waiting on 2nd cat... going to do it all at once once and for all. :mmph:

overall, I think the 2015 rims are only 3/4 further out, they are usually 1/2 closer without the spacers, so moving them out 1.25 inch out gives it a subtle spacing... looks great to me.

the brakes are different, peddle feels the same, but the feed back is better, I can tell the truck wants to stop now, maybe if my brakes were worse before there'd be a bigger difference, but sadly I don't notice it enough. but it is REALLY cool to put bigger brakes on, and bolt on to boot.

adjusted throttle cable - love this!!

Notes: driver side spark plug was finger loose! you can see burn marks on the plug itself. hoping above maintenance helps mpg

my mileage has been really lower than my wifes, like 15mpg in city, and 16-17.5 on freeway, where she is getting 17 city and 21 freeway! what the heck?

I also have my scanguage giving A/F ratio (99 cali emissions) I rarely see 14.7 is this normal? I'd say I'm in the 12.5 as the 'leanest' I've seen.
 
some update...

I took some time to stop and take pictures of my adventures... I've been meaning to but I'm never really keen and getting pics taken, sorry for the lack of pics.

to be honest, it's amazing how capable out rigs are in 'stock' form... I think for now I'm keeping stock and just adding armor. once the armor is on, I'll lift.

I do need to replace inner/outer tie rods, I'm contemplating the whole rack and pinion... what do you guys think?

I too have a '99 Limited Desert Dune, and I have to say that they're amazingly capable. As far as mileage goes, I believe I'm getting closer to the numbers you are reporting, I think a little better on freeway maybe.

Anyways, keep on posting! I'll be subscribing so as to see your truck's transformation, I've never gotten to watch someone's grow, just gone back and read through pages and pages of build threads. And thanks for inspiring me!

thanks, been reading alot and liked some layouts from others.

it's weird getting mpg from this truck, recent snow trip got 18.86mpg (282.9m/15.003g)!!! woot woot almost as good as my wife's 'avg' 19mpg. my avg is 14.5 now, city driving. a failure would be I'm 3miles from work... so truck never 'warms up'. summer it's already warmed with 100* mornings, but winter I'm barely 125* after 3 miles.

post link here when you get your thread up and going. I love watching others. I'm really inspired by [MENTION=67615]Dirtco[/MENTION] 's 1st rendition of his ltd and 35's... I think that will be end goal. but it's gonna be a while.
 
I think you found your answer right there, I read somewhere on this forum that while our trucks are still warming up, they run rich to help speed up the process.

Hit a tree on the trail a few weeks ago, oops, and busted my rear light. wasn't gonna replace it but local cop's made a fit...

I decided going aftermarket for a few reasons... A) I couldn't get a rear tail light without getting a pair, time fades and I notice and will want to replace both... so I knew I wanted both replaced... B) used ones around here calling they wanted $30-40 each light so 60-80... and that's for used... C) new stock ones were not going to happen... D) these were $100 to my door, new, and look good. simple.

the light went in easy, no wiring, no mod, just unbolt, twist out the lights from old and reverse to the new... 5min for both sides. usually I'm not into 'changing' looks of the vehicle except for windows, but I've made an exception, and I like it.

and then I've been snow wheeling woot woot... okay realy just went the 18 miles offroad to get to the browns peak trail head then came back...

it was fun, I helped get a decked out recovery jeep out of a predicament helping a full size silverado get out of the ditch... was a fun time. then silverado got stuck again (didn't know them) and I 'tried' to pull them out but then got myself stuck in 4lo/locked on ice... then a mud tired 4 banger jeep needed to give me a tug out of the grooves... only time I get stuck was pulling someone else, heavier than me.

it was funny cause all the while, people were commenting on how amazing my truck was, weird, that it really didn't have any 'slideing' or 'it just kept moving' and 'that's the biggest "stock" vehicle that made it to the top" kind of comments.

Just read through your thread man. Great job on doing the essential mods. Especially trying to get the MPG higher. I really need those tundra brakes

wheel alignment -refused: need to replace inner tie rods, and should replace my front&rear shock 'bushings'.
will try to oem parts... they lasted this long.

starting with the suspension and steering.

this had me thinking for a while... maybe I wasn't heating up...

so My theory turned out correct, the PO put in a aftermarket t-stat, probably form napa same as the belts and timing belt... I replaced the t-stat and t-belt with toyota parts... I think the t-stat made the BIGGEST difference.

before, I was running a normal 185*ish, not running a 205*ish and fluctuates rather predictably now (down to 195 on freeway, and 205 in traffic)

I think the truck was using more gas to get up to a higher temperture, and could never reach that temp... cause the t-stat was opening too soon.

recently did alot of freeway and little city driving and got 17.5mpg... thats really good for me... so I think improvement will come with the added heat.
