So Cal Trail Driving

hey guys,

new to the forum, new to owning a 4Runner. Just got a SR5 V8 4WD in white, VERY STOKED.

Seems like this forum doesn't get as much action as a lot of other car forums but I thought i'd ask a question.

I got two buddies with 2wd 4Runners, so i wanted to know if you guys could point me in the right direction for southern california trail off-roading. something easy enough for 2WDs to do, but something with some cool scenery or anything cool.

i'd appreciate any help. Trails.com and stuff ask for money...kinda broke!

I love this website, but it only gives you a certain amount of trails. But at least it's another option for you. 6 SoCal trails for you! And then you can check out the kind of trails we've got up here!

Gorman is a fun place with a little bit of everything, and a great first place

We also went to Big Bear this past weekend and there are a lot of great trails up there to try

hey man,
I was working in the palm springs area andfound some really good trails. my favorite was imperial sand dunes ( Glamis). this is a great fall and winter type trail. too hot for summer use. this is an awesome party site in the winter months. just air your tires down to 15 psi and have fun.

Blythe was also pretty cool. there is a mountain range north of the town. if you head out of Blythe, there is a road by the Dairy Queen. just follow that road about 10 miles. you'll see the rest.

SoCal trails

do you know where Indian Drive is? the road by the 76 truck stop in North Palm Springs? if you folow it out past the wind turbines toward the mountain range, you will see a dirt road at the base of the mountains( Eastern mountain range, sorry). Look for some wooden power poles going up the mountains. there is a service road that follows those poles. it eventually comes out in the Morongo Valley/ Joshua Tree area. very long, goo scenic trail.

i will be in the Tehachapi area from 9-6 to 9-24, know of any good trailin' there?

I think you mean Indian Ave, but yeah there is a 76 station there. so just follow that and keep going on...as long as a bone-stock 4runner can do it...seems like something that'd be fun to do. i got 2 friends with 2wd 4runners that wanna find some easy and long trails just to get away from civilization. if it heads into joshua tree, sounds like a worthwhile time.

yeah, indian ave. I worked on those wind turbines there. my ride is a '99 runner, stock except for the navigation system. i made it no problem. i don't see any reason a 2wd 'runner couldn't do it. there are a few hairpin curves farther in, but not too bad. if you look down some of the steeper hills, there are tons of cars kids have lit on fire and rolled down the hills.

if you google earth north palm springs, the satellite imagery will show you the trail at the end of indian. you'll have to zoom in close, but it is visible. i got off the trail about 45 miles into the trip. the trail kept going, but i was losing daylight and didn't have gps then. i'd like to say the trail may go to the national park.

by the way, if you do Glamis sand dunes, leave the 2wd 'runners at home. take your friends along for the ride and show them the wonders of a 4wd 'runner!

i would lose your friends with only 2wd. Life is too short, only keep friends with 4wd, if not what else would you want a 2wd friend for?

Sure you can look at prairies and meadows, but what you really want to look at is the mud bog, or the hidden beach, or maybe even heaven.......and i know you need 4LO to get to heaven.
