So... Can you jump Bilstein 5100's?

Nothing crazy, just a couple wheelies here and there, maybe a foot or two at most. I know the long travel rear ones hold up pretty well with good springs, but how about the front? Just curious, I don't really plan on jumping my truck haha just want to know how damaging it would or would not be.

Well, that answers my question! So here's another - what shocks ARE good for jumps? I'm guessing long travels about the only way to go? What about the Sway Away 52000's? Those look pretty decent for both crawling and getting a little air... I have no idea though

Well, that depends on a couple things... Mostly how much air you're looking to get. If you're talking Huck Fest type stuff like my buddy PismoJoe here, you're looking at getting some long travel type stuff going. In this pictures he's running a Total Chaos/King setup, but now he has a pretty sexual looking Icon setup.

If you're talking about just getting the front, maybe the rear, off the ground a few inches, maybe a foot, you'll be fine with any 2.5" Coilover, I imagine, but I highly encourage that you make positive that you've clearanced your fenders so that you don't come down, stuff a tire, and damage anything it hits under there.

I learned that lesson the hard way.

Now that I have 100% clearanced everything down there, and upgraded my bump stops to the Wheelers Superbumps, it honestly feels better than hitting a speed bump when I get a little air under the tread.

I've done it after a few beers. Did it around 4x actually. It hits hard but it wasn't *terrible*. Balljoints didn't like it though.

You don't like bilsteins? Are they too hard or soft or something? My current shocks and rear springs are completely worn out, it's like driving with trampolines for suspension.

Does anybody know anything about Sway Away 52000 coil overs? (these) Are they any good for crawling and occasional wheelies?

5100's are the jack-of-all-trades shock; in a good and bad way.

They are affordable, tough as nails, consistent, reliable, and somewhat decent off-road. If you already have em, just try a little jump. It's not very pleasant though, and like me, you'll realize that 2.5" shocks are the way to go with these trucks.

Lotta guys running them with spacers which is a huge NO-NO.

We dont recommend jumping your truck with a smaller shock like the Bilstein. Get a shock built for heavy offroad use - we also suggest you re-enforce the spindle and use proper safety equipment like a roll cage. Jumping a truck at 50mph+ with out a roll cage is stupid.

FYI, for jumping, dirt bikes or pogo sticks work better than 4runners

Thank you all for your responses, but I think some of you are a little bit confused... I don't plan on jumping my truck, I was just wondering how Bilsteins would hold up if it somehow happened. Still, thank you for all your info! However, I still have one question a little bit unanswered...

Is anyone running Sway Away 52000's? Are they worth it (for crawling, going fast, DD, maybe tiny jumps)? Compared to Bilstein 5100's? Thanks!

What would you expect to happen on a jump with no proper landing? If you drive the truck off a ramp, you should land on a ramp. Also, that's only one example of someone with more money than brains haha. I've personally jumped a friends Raptor many times. And then drove home in it.

At what I can only assume your budget is (assume), good bump stops, and limit straps will be much more useful than any shock you can buy.
