I went to ss tire for an alignment and I leave to go to walmart come back and they tell me they broke a tie rod on my runner and I have to pay for it even though they broke it. My 4runner is sitting in there shop all night because they couldnt get the part in today. I am so pissed off. The main thing is they broke it and I have to pay for their mistake. Gosh im pissed.

did they tell you they broke it, or the tierod was broken(as in bad?) I dont see a tierod breaking, unless it was just flat out worn out. If they admittedly broke it,(some how) then they should be responsible for fixing it. I would contact the store manager.

Idk how they broke it. The guy said he man handeled it then it ended up breaking. Ive talked to the store manager. Nobody appears to give a shit for me. It was fine when I went in there. I think if they break it they fix it.
 
ask to see the broken park when you pick up the truck! and see if its broken for you self, if you dont think it is broken... bring it home with you for evidence
 
well, a tierod is only abt $45.00 from advance auto parts. Are they at least gonna cover the labor on it? I definitely would not be happy, in fact, i would tow it out of there, and take it somewhere else for an alignment. i would put the tie rod on myself. i would not give that company a penny of my $$

1) Take the tie rod with you no matter what as proof/evidence.

2) Assert your claim that they "man-handled it" they fix it...very logical argument.

3) If they still dont give a shit, tow your car out of there like someone said and tell them you will contact the Better Business Bureau and you will file a complaint.

4) Put sugar in there gas tank....nah...nah dont do that............... if someone is looking....hehe

5) Be strong and put your foot down.

WOW WTF? i would call a tow truck tow it to the dealer have the dealer repair it and aling it to factory specs and send this ss Tire the repair bill if they dont do anything about it takem to small claims court. i worked for Longo Toyota for 4 years and in any one broke anything on a customers car we were responsible. even when i worked for just tire it was the same thing. they touch it they are responsible thats wat shop insurance is for.
 
They wouldnt budge on anything. It probably doesnt help im only 17 so they dont really care to much. I guess I have to pay for it ? Im having them put in the tie rod then taking it to toyota to get it aligned.

hey man age has nothing to do with it they man handled it they pay. you expect when you bring the car in in one piece that it leaves in one piece.
 
The alignment should be really easy on your 01. If they had to "manhandle" the tie rod I wouldn't trust them to install a new one.

If they manhandle the steering rack you could be looking at an expensive bill. I would tow it to a well known shop that you or your family have a history with. (or your dealer)

Is it the same place that installed your lift? If so, I would be concerned that they took care installing your lift because you are around delicate parts like rubber/steel brake lines or ball joint seals, to mention a few.

Also, if that is the shop do you think they pay much attention to torque specs?

Well I hope that's not the same shop that did your lift, but no matter what remember to retorque everything that was touched in few hundred miles. Good Luck.
 
I had them put the tie rod end on then took it to toyota to do the alignment. I had a guy I kmow put the lift on. Not ss tire. Im never going back there again.
 
YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME !! Toyota just called and said they couldnt do the alignment. They said they would scratch my rims if they did ? They said it was to wide for their maachine ? Idk all I know is that nothing seems to be going right after I got the lift put on. Im so frusterated lol. There sending it to ntb nmow who can supposebly do the alignment(heard that before). Hopefully everything goes good. Sorry for the vent. Just kinda pissed.
 
When I put my lift in I took it to a Toyota dealership to do the alignment. They also broke a tie rod, but unlike Walmart, they apologized profusely, replaced it with a new one and took 10% of the total bill.
I will never to go Walmart for auto stuff after reading of your experience.
 
The tie rod broken happened at SS tire. Ntb said that I have to put the stock rims and tires back on for them to be able to do the alignment..Anyone heard of this before ?
 
ah, ok, sorry walmart, mis-read original post...
I've had aftermarket rims and tire aligned plenty of times. Tell NTB to go back to wheel school.
