So i got rear ended...

Had a rather unpleasant start to my day this morning.
I was on my way to school and I was sitting at a red light when out of nowhere a prius driver decided to update his facebook status rather than pay attention to the road which resulted in me getting a nice love tap from the back.

Now heres the funny part, the prius that hit me was an art car, those things you see with 1000s of trinkets littered all over them.

This is the damage I recieved (the guy was going probably a little under 20 mph)

and here is the damage he recieved... (take note of the guy's rockin outfit)

He's lucky that my trailer hitch wasn't in or who knows what kinda damage it would of done.

After talking to the guy he was really cool about it. turns out he's semi famous in houston for his car, everyone has seen it and he's been on the news a couple times.

When i arrived at school i noticed that he knocked my exhaust pipe right off the hinges and it was just dangling there. however it was a quick fix and i clamped it back in less than 2 minutes.

Anyway, i'm taking it to the shop tomorrow to get a damage assessment to make sure nothing else is messed up and hopefully i'll get this ugly dent gone ASAP.

I'm in Houston too and my friends keep talking about these art cars. I guess I won't be seeing this one anytime soon. Was this around mid-town area? Anyhow, I'm glad you're ok.

I'm located in northwest houston and thats where the wreck took place, and if he ever gets his car fixed just make sure to stay out of his way :roadkill:

and thanks!

Another Prius owner that makes up for his decreased carbon footprint by increasing it by excessive plastic consumption?

Sorry for your damage, I keep my trailer hitch on at all times in case someone gets too close.

daaaaamn that guy is a tool! but hey, he's got more .. uh more, well something i don't have considering he's driving in a trinked out prius.

I'm not suprised he hit you considering the lack of visibility from all that **** (or trinkets as you call them) on his hood. What's up with that? Are these things for sale or is this just the new way of expressing ones inner self.

I'm sorry to hear about the accident but I'm more curious about buddy and his "art car".

EDIT: He does look a bit artsy or is that you sporting the tie-dye outfit and crocs?

I surprised the law allows all that crap on his car!
Bet his insurance company is gonna love this...

It's not a good idea to leave your hitch on, at least where I live anyways. A guy I know was parked outside a local pub and I think someone walked into his hitch so they took it off and tossed it through the back window of his truck. A bit of an over reaction but it effing hurts when you walk into those and I dont think you should be allowed to leave them on if you arent using it just too keep people from walking into it in parking lots.

I'm pretty sure you can get a ticket in some areas if you leave it on.

Anyways, that guy shouldnt be allowed to have all of that crap on his car, no wonder he hit you.

And to your shin when you forget you've left it on?

Heh, yeah, does happen. I don't know what it is about the area I live in, but people are always tapping into the back of other people's cars. I've been "hit" (if you can even call it that) 3 times by cars behind me, while both of us were stopped at a red light. I also had an old man drive into the back of an empty boat trailer. Again there, we were both completely stopped for probably 30 seconds, the light hadn't turned green, then I feel this light bump and he's jammed the end of the trailer all up in the grill of his Caddie.

I do have a receiver lock so no one can steal the hitch. And yes, if I am in a real accident, I may regret it (although I'd guess that the hitch isn't long enough to hit any frame on the opposing vehicle). But I can't be replacing the bumper cover every six months.

Back to the original post, I would be really annoyed if I was involved in an accident with a car that distracting.
