So i wanna buy a 4runner

Hi everyone, this is my 1st post and i want to buy a 1995 4runner v6 automatic. I've read really good reviews but would like to know from the experienced what I'll be getting myself into.

I'm buying this because im an outdoors man and would like to be able to tow a trailer(most likley dirt bikes and quads) and be able to sleep in my car when i go camping. I also snowboard so ill be driving up icy mountain roads and probably a little bit of light off-roading.

The 4runner i want to buy looks to be in good condition, inside and out, and the engine bay is really clean and look like it has new spark plug wires

So, with that said, may I ask a few questions:

What mechanical (engine and tranny) problems am I going to run into with 151,000 miles on it.

At how many miles does the tranny go out? I hear there are no problems even past 250,000 miles.

How much does it cost to replace the transmission? (we all know they go out eventually)

What are the regular problems the car comes with? (every car has them)

Is there anything else I should know about the engine?

Is there anything else i should know about the transmission?

Is there anything else i should know in general?

i have a 92 with 188000 on her. mo michanical probs with engine yet..(knock on wood) i dont have a auto tranny so cant help u there. um only problem i have had were the head gaskets being replaced at like 69000 but toyota paied for it other than that i love her to deth and shes the best suv i will ever own or have owned if u got any more q's ill gladly help you out

The '95 V6 3.0 is not known for its power. Its often called the 3.slo. If you're planning to do a lot of towing, especially in hilly areas, you might be disappointing with its performance. Mine is a real dog on hills but its not running properly & needs help so I maybe a little bias. Others have had no problem towing with that motor.

As 924runnerSR5 mentioned, the head gaskets can be an issue. Toyota is aware of the problem & offered to replace blown head gaskets for free but only on certain vin numbers. A dealer should be able to tell you if that truck had the fix or if its even eligible.

Unless its been lifted, you may notice the rear end sags some. Most do. I'm told this can be fixed fairly easily with a leveling kit. Mine is still dragging its butt though.

That's about all I can think of for now. Mine has a few problems but I really like her. She's a capable vehicle both on & off road.
