So many 4runners............

It seems like I can't leave the house to go anywhere, without seeing 4th gen 4runners. I see quite a few 3rd gens around here also, but nowhere near as many as the 4th gens. I see 20-30 per day, and that's on a day where I don't drive much. Just coming home from class about 20 minutes ago, I saw between 5 and 10 4th gens, between campus and the 5 miles to my house. The streets here seem to be lined with them. I know of about 6-8 4th gens, and a few 3rd gens, within a 1 block radius of my house.

Anyone else seem to live in an area dominated by 4runners?

And i'm definitely not saying it's a bad thing. I love seeing other 4runners. Except most people don't ever care about another 4runner around them, they just keep looking straight.

I see tons of 4Runners around here too (Atlanta/Marietta, GA). Most of them are 3rd Gens unless I go out to Roswell and Alpharetta though. Those are where the people with money for a 4th Gen live for the most part LOL

Where in SoCal are you? I'm in the Pasadena area, and on the way home from school, also about 20 minutes, I see around 10 of them...in the smallest parking structure at the school, theres about 6-7 that I will see while driving through...

MANY MORE civics, acuras, etc tho lol

Haha, i'm in Huntington Beach. Not sure why it's dominated by 4runners, although it makes me sad to see that most of them are owned by mothers who would rather look in their vanity mirror than take a glance at another 4runner near them.

I only see about 3 or 4 4th gens every morning during my SF commute on I80. SE's are a rare sight. Although I sometimes see a black '05 SE with a front brush guard and t4r.org sticker in the rear window. If that's you, then props. I mostly see SR5's though. Go to my hometown of Daly City, and they are a dime a dozen. One parked in every ten driveways, mostly SR5's. So if you see a shadow mica SE with Walnut Creek Toyota frames, a tow ball, and a 3 year old watching Pixar movies in the back, that' me.

NE Ohio

I see few 4Runners in the NE Ohio area compared to other SUVs. I commute approximately 15 miles each way to work, puttin gon a total of 1000 - 1200 miles/month as of late. In my daily driving I can go a day or two without seeing a 4Runner and sometimes I may see 3 - 4 in one day. I probably average seeing 1/day. These are equally split between 3rd gen and 4the gen. I cannot remember the last time I saw a 1st or 2nd gen 4Runner.

I probably see as many if not more GX470s in my area.

As far as models, most of the 4th gen Runners I see are SE models - with a few Limited models like mine Titanium silver seems to be the most popular with Galactic Grey coming in second (my two favorite colors).

I cannot say I ever saw a 2WD 4Runner in the NE Ohio area. I know I have NEVER seen one (or even inventoried) at our local (large) Toyota dealer. I personally don't see their point.

Surprisingly, I see just as many Land Rovers and Hummers in my area. Today I saw two Range Rovers. Lots of RXs and Escalades - a favorite among the soccer moms in our area.

One family in my development owns two H2 Hummers. Of course they are always pristine in appearance. I believe they think off-road is the occasional gravel driveway!

We have a lot of escalades here too, although I don't see as many as I do 4runners. They are usually owned by a white teenage guy, usually around my age, who thinks he's the next slim shady. :biggrin2:

I live in Cincinnati and don't see nearly as many as you do. I wish I did. I see maybe 1 or 2 on average a day.

Those are the ones that I see as well. Although I am equally as guilty being bone stock. However, I am buying new tires eventually and I am definitely going to get that T&H Eurotech Stainless Bull Bar sometime after the holidays. It looks great on the Titanium (which I have) 4Runners, and all of them for that matter. I'm not sure what others mods to do yet. I took out the carpet mats and threw in some all-weather mats. I guess that's my first "mod".

It wasn't my intent to bash stock 4runners. Some people just don't like to change the appearance of their vehicles. Many people on this forum are great people, and have stock 4runners. It was just part of my frustration of 90% of the 4runners here never being used for anything except groceries and school pick-ups. Being stock is just another point to emphasize their uselessness of having a 4WD vehicle.

Oh no I knew you weren't bashing stock 4Runners. I am not one to radically change the appearance of a vehicle, but I do want to do a few things (as I mentioned above). I also hope to utilize the 4Runner's great 4 wheel drive system on some trails and such, but I don't know where to go that's somewhat close to where I live (Cincinnati, Ohio).

To be fair though, the 4runner is pretty capable in stock configuration. I've taken my SR5 off road a few times already and it is very capable. Not talking hard core, but take it into dirt and snow and it is surprisingly capable within mild conditions. Money is also a consideration. I'd like some beefy BFG's and sliders but that stuff is not cheap (especially if you have kids, two trucks, and a house to fit the bill).

Agreed. I would like to pick up a set of BFGs myself, but I can't see myself off-roading enough to really use them to their potential. I don't even know of anywhere to go around where I live. Plus, I'm sure all those mods add up. I plan on doing a bull bar and some new tires in the near future, bull abr sooner than the tires since my OEM Bridgestones only have 23k on them.

Same tires i'm going to get, but i'm milking my dunlops for as long as possible. And of course the 4runner is great even when it's stock. It's an amazing vehicle, and if the 5th gen is even better, I will most likely get one of those too. Just wish I could get it up to the snow, if we ever get any....

Yea, I just can't justify spending a grand right now on a set of tires when the ones that came with my truck only have 23k on them. It just doesn't make sense. I mean, they're not THAT bad. What kind of mods do you have? If any. In regards to the snow. We should be getting some snow up here in Cincy soon. Not sure about your situation in SoCal.

Yea I thought the $1,000 price that I was quoted at was a little high. I would love to have the BFGs, but I don't think I will be doijng enough off-roading in order to use them to their full potential. They look incredible. Also, I don't think they come in the stock size 265/65/17 which I want to stay with. I have heard that by going up a size, I would ge trubbing issues.

You would have to go with 265/70/17's. Some people don't get any rubbing at all, and some experience slight rubbing when the wheels are turned all the way to either side, like a U turn.
