So question on rear coils.

So up for grabs on rear coils, should I get the ones off the landcruiser or get the toytec superflex? How are they different?

Rear Land Cruiser Coils: 48131-6A570

Thats the part number of the coils that I currently have, I will put Bilstein 5100s with those. Just trying to see what the difference is for rear coils. Sorry if this has been discussed before, trying to get some answers quick like :D

They're different in every way. Well, they're both black, and probably manufactured in a similar manner... That's about it though.

I'd call Toytec. For some reason they know a lot about those Toytec Superflex coils.

They may different like he said above but they act really similar. Depending on how tall of LC coils you get, there is a 3.5-5" lift with LC coils. Superflex give about 3.5" or a little more. Both ride really well on street, handle washboard with correct shock choice and flex like crazy on the trail. Superflex coils are known to sometimes make noises on the trail "coil slap" as I think they are progressive as where the tundra coils are not.

The landcruiser coils are the ones from the sonoran steel website

Those are 7 wraps, they will give you about 3.5-4" lift. I run them and love them. I have them paired with tokico land cruiser OEM rear shocks. Great offroad, street and highway. The LC coils are a little soft so paired with a tighter OEM shock they ride great.
 
keep in mind if you go with the LC coils the back end will sit up really high, doesn't bother me but seems alot of folks here are obsessed with a level 4runner!

The billies are nice and people love them, but give a softer ride. I like the OEM ride and the tokicos handle weight better IMO.

I love the raked look. It really helps getting the back end over large rocks. Level you can clear with the front and get hung up out back. With the higher rear you have less chance of damage and or getting high centered. Thats my experience doing a lot of offroading.
 
Reviving a thread from the dead but the discussion here is relevant to me since I am running LC 8-wrap rear springs (yes my butt is high up there w/no bumper) and I am looking at shocks

Would love to get some model numbers into the discussion, so here we go

With the 48131-6A570 rear Land Cruiser Coils, SS recommends either

Rear FJ Bilstein 5100s 33-187174 ($80 each everywhere, includes hardware)

-OR-

Rear Toyota Tokico: 48531-69417 ($65 each Amazon, $40-45 online toyota dealers - buyer must supply mounting hardware)

Dimensions on the 33-187174 FJ shock are
Collapsed Length (IN): 14.91
Extended Length (IN): 23.5
Travel Length (IN): 8.59

Would love to find/compare dimensions of the Tokico, but the real question is how do they feel and perform and which shock would be preferred in a stock weight vs added weight (bumpers, rear load) situation?


For the purposes of this discussion, I am currently running ProComp ES9000 (922510) rear shocks bought from Toytec as their PN NT4R-R ($114 for the pair from Toytec with boots, cheaper at Summit but $7 more for boots)
Extended Length: 22.75 Inch
Collapsed Length: 13.54 Inch
Travel Length (IN): 9.21

I have not exceeded the capability of this shock, yet, and the rear end feels good, so I'm not in a hurry to change them

I'm currently debating between the land cruiser coils listed above and OME 890's. I have a few questions I hope you can help me out with.
1) What's your rear hub to fender measurement?
2) How much rear weight do you normally carry?
3) How do you like the ride with the LC/Tokico combo and how would you describe it?
