So there I was sleeping...

So there I was sleeping at 7:30 on a brisk Saturday morning. There was a knock on the door... someone was standing there and said something about "I think I hit your car." I went back upstairs... put some pants on, grabbed a jacket and went outside. Sure enough... someone hit my 4Runner... rear driver side corner. I was parked about 1.5" from the curb, where I always park but apparently someone else wanted their vehicle to be there too. I called the police and inspected...

The 4Runner was parked 1.5" from the curb... the force at which it was struck managed to shift the vehicle into the curb and knock the undercoating off of the control arm bracket (can't think of the right word). The wheel turned out to be bent as well, aside from the obvious cosmetic crap. Well this a little over 2 weeks ago... the cosmetic stuff is all fixed, they sent it out for alignment and the axle is shifted forward on one side and back on the other. So now I'm waiting to hear what's gonna happen next. I'm stuck driving a Highlander... I suppose things could be worse... but this whole mess sucks. The striking vehicle was an '07 Dodge Caliber... it wasn't able to driven whatsoever... and judging by the condition my bumper was in I thought I got off pretty easy...

sorry about that! I just recently had an accident too, and was impressed by the resiliency(sp?) of my truck. by the looks of your pictures, you had to replace a lot of the plastic cladding. those pieces are expensive as can be! I know yours is a 2nd gen., but, if you don't mind me asking, how much were those pieces on your insurance estimate?

edited: nevermind, now that look at it, it was just your bumper that needed replacing.

I can't see the pics because I am at work, but if it is the 2000 that is in his signature it is a 3rd Gen.

Man that sucks! At least the person admitted to doing it though. I hope it gets back to normal soon.

That exact same thing happened to my car except on the right side, and lower down so the light was not hit, but it still cost a pretty penny to replace; a Toyota or Lexus repair shop will do the best job in matching the color of your paint for the new bumper, but for a price. Will you be able to do anything about the rim too? I see it got some of the force of the hit

I was really surprised the person stopped too... but she actually couldn't go anywhere... her engine was still running but the wheels wouldn't turn, she actually ended up with quite a bit more damage than I did. And yes, it is a 3rd Gen.

Edit: Err... yea they put on a new (reconditioned) rim that I have yet to see but it was in the appraisal.
