Reported to come with a 3.0 liter diesel engine and according to East Coast Gear Supply will feature a Dayna 60 rear end





unfortunately it doesn't look as though they're going to make it to the states though. ECGS is trying to get one through mexico.

It's a pain in the ass to get diesel engines certified for the consumer market unless they're for 3/4 pickups. That and the American public is allergic to diesel.

Then scratch one's head a couple of times in bewilderment. Tariffs, or the threat to create a monetary imbalance in trade among nations, can make countries enact some egregious acts.

Rarely in any aspect is trade "free" among nations.

Was in Argentina over the summer. Saw TONS of these on the road and the 4runner counterpart called a Hilux SW4. They have been equipped with the 3.0l diesel for a while from what I understand. Both the Hilux and the SW4. From what I could read the starting price for a Hilux SW4 (4runner) was north of $60,000 US.

They also made the Hilux SW4 in the exact body style as the 3rd Gen 4runner here with a 3.0l diesel and our 2nd Gen 4runner with a 2.8l diesel.

The icing on the cake was all of them came standard with a 5-speed manual.

Haha - believe me - I was trying to figure out how to get one back state side.

Welcome to america where standard is gas and auto. I lived in Europe for 9 years. Every car you see here over at Europe it came diesal and manual. 99% cars in Europe are manual. My grandma had a like 80 something volmswagon golf diesal 5speed 4door. We miss out here on many many products.

It's getting better though... The German makers all now have diesel engines and Nissan will be releasing the first 1/2 ton diesel truck (Titan) next year. Not sure of the details yet, but it's coming.

I'm sure other car brands//models will eventually have more diesel models at some point, but who knows what//when they point will be...

I heard Toyota actually wants to put a Cummins in the Tundra, just like Nissan is doing with the Titan. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens within the next few years.

I wouldn't be surprised. The crazy thing is this article talks about the diesel Hilux, and I'm sure Nissan, like Toyota makes diesel engines that would be great for the US (for 1/2 ton trucks and SUVS) market, but have to go with Cummins due to them already being in the US market (approvals,vEPA,etc..). It shows how hard it is//would be to get diesel engines into the US market.

This is my own theory, but it makes sense to me...

Cummins has come a long way and have earned their name with repspect in diesal world. If Toyota made two versions like one is with Toyota diesal and one with Cummins. I put money that the Cummins would be more rare and more expensive.

So....is this the size of the Tacoma or is it more of a full size like the Tundra? The 60 in the rear is why I wonder if it's full size. Would have to narrow it down a ways to fit a Tacoma. Would be a SWEET axle for swaps though. A pre-narrowed disk brake rear axle

The grille definitely needs some Satoshi action. Don't like all those bars.

The Hilux's I saw were all the same size as the Tacoma. And the Surf was the same as the 4Runner.

Same size as Tacoma, however in other parts of the world, they are used like 1+ ton trucks are here, often with tray bodies, flat beds, cargo boxes, work trucks.

That's a pintle hitch. In the U.S. you'll see them on large PUs or larger trucks - more for commercial-class trailers eg 10,000 #.

Tells me that truck has some cajones.

I know what a pintle hitch looks like...but that is not one. There is no upper jaw for closure. Not really what I meant though...I was talking about the huge rectangular tube that goes across the width of the back under the bumper. Almost looks like a ridiculously over-engineered mud flap hanger
