So this thing fell out of my dashboard, driver's side.

It's connected to a little fiddly bit that also is barely hanging on, just above the e-brake.

The matter in which it was just shove up in there and taped poorly, plus a wire going through the screw tab, makes me wonder if it's not factory.
The min-max makes me think it's alarm related.

Also, my 4runner has no driver's side under dash hush panel, but it has the mounts for it. Is that excluded on trail?

Just a guess: that looks like an (Aftermarket) 'Security System Sensitivity Adjustment Module'. If you have a dealer installed alarm system, that may be what that is.

I'll zip tie it up and out of the way and forget about it.

Hey! Some poorly paid, over-worked, lube guy trying to move up from the oil stained slums of "the pit" worked really hard to shove that hokey pile of crap up under your dash!

Honestly, if I were you, I'd get it removed and have them repair your ignition wiring. Between the cheapo Gaurdian and KARR units my old dealership used for a while, they're nothing but trouble. At some point the box or the relay (if it's using an external one) will fail and you'll get a "No-Start" condition thanks to that thing. Was very common to have a year or two old Toyota towed in with the customer unable to start the vehicle, but be amazed I drove it into my stall only to quote them an hour to gut the unit and repair the wiring. My old dealership phased out installing those on new vehicles, that and those horrid SureStart Battery Saver crapola things.

(By the way, pro-tip: if you do have one of those things wedged up under your dash and your car's not starting and you suspect it to be the culprit. A paper clip and/or extra length of wire jammed between where they splice the ignition wire usually gets her choochin' again! )

As for the "hush" panel, I assume you mean that plastic panel they use on the passenger's side to cover the HVAC blower housing and mount an ECU or two to? I don't think the 4Runner has one on the driver's side, I could be wrong. Seems some vehicles have it on the driver's side and some don't.

Thanks. I'm not sure I can talk the dealer into ripping out the alarm. They may not even have done the install (it was a transfer from another dealer.)

guess it can't hurt to ask.

If you have a couple hours and some tools You just need to remove the kick panel down there and the steering column cover to see where the wiring goes. They'll have tapped into a few wires on the driver's side by the fuse block and at least one ignition wire up by the column near the ignition switch. Fix what they spliced and chuck that thing in the trash! Or you could get a quote from the dealer to see how much it'd be for them to do it for you.

I had a used Camry that was then brought to use because the rear view camera didn't work and was still under warranty"

After much frustration, circuit checking, calling TAS (oh how I loathe wasting time with TAS sometimes...), I found that there had to be a short in the harness of the vehicle (after we threw a new radio and camera in it and it didn't work... of course...). Well get the approval from warranty to do the harness, start ripping it up and guess what I find tucked under the door sill? Some shill at Subaru decided "herp-da derp Imma put in one of them make your 3rd brake lamp blink thingehs in cuz that's what we do to all cars, hey look a big black wire! That's surely a ground!"

This stupid 3-wire piece of crap module used a T-tap right into the coax cable for the rearview camera to "ground" it out. Yeah, it grounded it out after it shorted/severed 3/4 wires into the ground sheath! and I asked TAS if I should tear the car apart a bit to verify the short, they said "don't bother you determined there's a short in the harness, just replace it." Wasted something like 6hrs total on that car, couldn't warranty the harness so we tried to repair it as best as we could (trying to make a ground sheath from strands of copper by hand is a *****....) and in the end it didn't work the way I wanted so Subaru bought the harness from us and fixed it for the customer (since it was their **** up).

Some of the horror stories I have seen with aftermarket wiring would probably haunt me if I still had a soul... but that's why you charge extra labor for!

No it would be a black flat plastic with insulatiob on the back that would I she connect to the bottom of that kick panel. I guess the 4Runner just doesn't have it
