I've owned two Porsches, and I'll never, ever, own another. But then, I'm speaking from experience.

2012 Rav4 sport V6
Never any major issues 170,000 miles runs like the day it came off the lot. Not very good ground clearance for off road but it has great power and towing capacity for a small SUV. The V6 runs strong.
Original run flat tires and no spare were my biggest complaint. Got rid of the RFT's and threw a spare in the back it is the model without the rear tire carrier. At the time it was the best car I've owned until I got the 2016 T4R Trail. The Rav4 is now just an extra car for the family.

The Rav4 is a great little car but does have some limitations. If you have kids or planning to have kids I would give a serious look at the Highlander. We had the Rav4 and traded it for a Highlander because we travel a lot and room was a big issue. Space is the major downside to the Rav4 but if all your traveling in close to your home a Rav4 or if you have no interest in kids then it is a sold choice. And in all honesty I never realized how much space I needed until I had two kids which is why I also traded my pristine Tacoma for a 4Runner.

Those inexpensive vehicles use very low quality materials. Also, look at depreciation month to month. Your payment can easily be lower than the monthly depreciation of the vehicle. I have ridden in some and they are rattle traps. I have also looked at the craftsmanship closely. Comparing a vehicle that has racing pedigree to a Chinese made product is a joke. Now maybe a Nissan sentra would be comparable or something along those lines. I drove a sentra for a week as a rental. Once done I emailed Nissan HQ about how terrible and embarrassing it was to drive. Very much a rattle trap too. I don't eat at McDonalds either. But you don't need to eat at one to know that there is no quality in the product.

Um, again you are trying to compare apples to bananas. I don't recall anyone saying nice KIA pal. I dont think anyone will want your KIA in twenty years. And yes, I look carefully at the components installed on vehicles. Its crap at best. Compare the brakes and drive components to a German made car is a joke. Why would you even think they are ever closely related? See what someone will give you for your KIA on trade. I dont believe any magazine article written about depreciation. Someone is paying them to write that stuff. Dollar for dollar the depreciation a cheaply made car is obvious.

and as far as no one being interested in kias/hyundais: as an owner of many BMWs, I definitely notice and checkout G80 and G90 Genesis models as well as the Kia K9000 (the Stinger caught my eye when announced but I'm not sure if i've seen one on the street)
I definitely prefer driving my sister's hyuandai accent to my mom's corolla

China? :suspicious: Last time I checked, Hyundai/Kia vehicles for the North American market are manufactured in Korea and the USA, although there's a plant in China but those vehicles are for the Chinese market.
I was paid to drive Hyundais and Kia press vehicles a few years ago (along with Honda/Acura,Mazda,Mitsubishi,and Aston Martin). I liked the whole model line except the Veloster and Genesis coupe, never had any issues and actually preferred their infotainment and navigation systems over the other brands. The Aston Martins on the other hand in all their hand-built glory had a ton of issues with quality control (poor fit and trim, electronic systems that randomly die),something you'd expect not to happen in $200-300K vehicles. Wasn't fun having the radio and nav die on me while driving a Rapide through Midtown Manhattan.
BTW " Uncle [MENTION=51186]philsey[/MENTION] " I think your Sportage uses H11 bulbs...I can send you some spare pnp HID bulbs for Christmas if you'd like :bounce:

I've never enjoyed the brand, BUT that damn suv had me and the wife considering it in the future. It was quick enough to make me giggle (like Miata quick), It didn't sound as awful as my Jeep with a pentastar sounded (sewing machine revs) and it was easy to fit all the baby stuff in. I absolutely understand why you and the wife would choose it given the other options on the table. Depreciation on the 2011 Range Rover I bought was MSRP'd around 84-86K, I bought it for 27K. I don't think your Kia would ever lose 60K in 6 years.

I must say, I surprised myself too, as I held the "Korean car opinion" too before I checked things out. But multiple year 3rd party reviews are good, several friends with excellent history, great dealership experience, etc etc ... plus very competitive pricing/trade/feature-set just made it too competitive to pass up. At the end of the day, it's just a friggin' car after all.

Both Kia and Hyundai have come a long way from when they were first introduced in 80's and/or 90's. Speaking of Kia, I'd love to hear from someone on this forum who gets their hands on the Stinger. That would be on my short list if I were ever to go back to a sedan...

You can't go wrong with most toyota products, the only argument against them, are they tend to be a bit "soulless".....

Bought the Mrs. a Hybrid XLE AWD 2017 last year, loves it. 35 mpg, I fit in it...win, win.
