So your giving your 16 year old daughter your 4runner

Long time lurker and owner of an 2001,2007, and a new to me as of this week 20011. I could start a dealership

Passing on the 2001 limited to my 16 year old. It's a limited 2wd with 180,000 miles. Solid truck still. Just drove it 2300 miles a month ago on a trip to iowa and other parts.

I'm an ok mechanic and do some of the up keep myself and some at a shop.

Question, what all would you do to it before you hand it over? Won't be off roaded just to and from school and some slightly longer outings.

Things I've done in last 15k

All fluids
Water pump
Fuel pump
New plugs and wires
New pads and rotors

Things I need to do
New tires
Fluids all over again (oil gets done regularly of course)

Any other long term items you gents/ladies can think of?

Seriously considering removing every seat but the drivers so she can't drive anyone with her. Ever. Lol

And a gps tracker. That's actually going to happen. Protective dad

I did most of what you did in order to give my 2000 to my then 16 year old son. I also put in Weathertechs and a new stereo with Bluetooth. It's so nice I kept it and bought him a 2000 Tacoma Ex Cab, which he loves.

He says he still wants the 4Runner. He drives it on weekends a lot.

Bluetooth. Too many kids trying to talk and drive these days. A basic bluetooth can be had for $100-150.

Also, at 180k isn't the T belt due?

Good luck with the won't go off road in it. My son had a 97 2wd that he ended up taking to Jambo only to return and lust after a 4wd which he ended up with after selling the 2wd for $100 more than we bought it for, and sliding into a 99 4wd. Now he is an FJ driving fiend. It has been rather expensive as the repairs and upgrades seemed constant. (but hey, I'm pretty much free of that now) We did 90% of the work ourselves as he picked it up like a sponge. It actually gave us bonding time which is cool.
