Soft top options

So i want a soft top for my 4runner, problem is i dont have 2000 dollars for one. So i was wanting to make one or i would buy one if i could get it for less than like, 300. I want a full top that can be easily removed, its mainly just for rain protection. If theres anyone whos built one im just curious about it and if its possible or not.

$2000 sounds unrealistic, check out soft topper. They are in the realm of $700 and are a complete coverage, custom fit topper.
 
Ive got a softopper and its def worth the money. If you're lucky enough to live in front range colorado you can swing by their factory and they'll hook you up if you pay in cash...
 
Where the hell.....$2000???!

Dude. EBay, Craig'slist.....ect....I've bought two softtops off eBay for hella savings dawg. Just have to look.
 
IIRC, there's 3 companies that make a full coverage soft top for the 1st gen. Runners. Killer Toy tops, Canback (I think that's how it's spelled), and of course like the others mentioned Softopper.

I bought a softopper. A little over $700 including shipping, but was shipped to me 2-3 days after I ordered it. I'm very happy with the quality and comes with a nice storage bag to protect it.
The only time it ever leaks is while I'm spraying it directly with the high pressure wand at the car wash.
 
Well I really want one that can be just like rolled up and latched in the front so i can just go topless but cover it when it rains or like, exceeding speeds of 60 or so. So i figured making one would be easiest, has anyone made one or is there one i can just easily roll up to go topless?

Killer toy tops make a really good top. It has options also, like side windows. And it works with your roll up rear window.

He sells direct or we sell them on our site. They are made to order so fill time is usually 2-3 weeks.

Can back makes a great top or atleast used to. I have a top I bought used from a Tacomaworld member that is 8 years old or so for my pickup and its still holding up great. Sits out in the sun and winter year round. The prices are pretty stiff though I think 1700 for a 4runner top. Im actually looking at purchasing one for my 89 and think ill be going with Softopper this time around. Its $750 on their website plus shipping.

Do you want a full soft top or just a bikini top? Bikinis are easy to make, there's lots of versions out there. A full top with sides and rear that roll down is a little tricker to make yourself.
 
I want a full top. And it doesnt even have to be functional with my rear window. I was just thinking of using some flexible clear vinyl for windows (sides and rear)
