Softex seat material vs. dog nails

First long road trip coming up in a few weeks. I was concerned about the softtex durability as well and the dog getting by injured falling into the footwell while off road (or some a-hole cutting me off). So, I threw this together with some scrap ply and carpet. So far the dog loves it she can scratch, chew, as hyper ACD’s love to do…. FYI, girlfriend sits in back or stays home.

I have a small dog but I haven't had any issues with damage to the softex. I'm really impressed with it. We go out on the beach a lot and I'll put her in the back seat with her sandy paws on the way back. I always clean the interior when we get back though. I use my shop vac for the sand, wipe the seats down with a lightly soapy rag and go over them with some interior detailing wipes and the softex looks showroom fresh again. It's been a couple years and they still look brand new. I wouldn't want cloth or leather in a vehicle like this. I don't think it would hold up as well.

You guys are nuts to let an animal wander in a moving car unrestrained. The amount of kinetic energy contained in a 10lb dog in a situation where the vehicle comes to a very quick stop is massive. Where talking force that will easily snap a neck or crush a skull. Lock your dogs up in kennel and strap it to the floor.

I have a good friend from work that is largely paralyzed and can't talk because he was involved in a rollover and his unsecured laptop bag hit him in the back of the head at around 15mph during the rollover. That's all it took.

Thanks for sharing. People don’t realize how dangerous loose items are. Sad to hear about your friend. Keep passing on the safety sense in his honor and I’m sure he would appreciate it.
 
Mine has been great, haven't had any issues. But if you want to make sure you can always just put down a blanket, dogs prefer that anyways I think.
