well considering it had a rebuilt engine at 35k miles now has 38k, bad scrape/dent on back with 2 broken tail lights, and bunch of scratches from trees and stuff when offroading. still got $21,000 and now own a 2010 vw golf

i will miss my 4runner, but due to gas prices and college coming up it was a good decision.

Why was the motor rebuilt?

Search. He had some threads on it. I believe it was an exhaust valve that let loose. Some fluke thing. Nothing to worry about.

And CONGRATS on the new VW. I hope it is good to you and you never regret. Enjoy the new wheels.

Good to hear I shouldnt be worried. I just bought mine a little over a month ago and have read a couple things about warped heads and then saw this so I am just trying to gather as much info as possible. I just got out an an 07 Audi A4 that was a nightmare and I do not want a repeat, hence why I bought a Toyota

I'm glad you got a good price! And thanks for posting - it makes it easier for me to figure out what mine might be worth if I sell it (2006, 35k miles, in pretty much like new condition on the inside, couple scratches on the outside).
Sounds silly but it's almost too nice of a truck for me - if the right 3rd Gen comes along I might well sell it. Especially because it seems to have gone up in value rather than down.

Good luck with college! the Golf is a great car and you'll have fun with it (and people will be less likely to guilt you into helping them move now you don't have a truck :)

dumba$$ for selling it

Jk :D glad your happy. and you did get a good price, it looked like a nice runner. good luck with your vw

got rid of mine too, but not really gainin any mpg's with my new ride ha

Yep, trust me. I just bought my 4Runner a little over 2 weeks ago and had saw the same posts you are referring to and researched them and others to death on the subject. You definitely have nothing to worry about. There are 100% no common problems that plague either motor.

I from all the reading and research I've done, the only problems that would hit either motor are just "fluke" and very uncommon. The term "bulletproof" could be applied to either motor. Of course crazy things can happen, and any car/SUV/truck can be a gamble, but you've definitely taken a calculated gamble with the 4R from all of my absolutey obsessive research. Should be very reliable.

A couple threads you may find interesting:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/37419-highest-mileage-4th-gen.html

This one in particular discusses the v6 (which if I'm hearing you correctly, you have). Lots of high mileage v6's there: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/53025-100k-200k-mile-4th-gen-v6s-post-up.html

Lots of good examples. At this point, just drive and enjoy a very good motor on a very good vehicle!

I just paid $23k and change for an 08 SR5 w/30k miles in January. Looks like they're holding value very well. Of course, maybe that's just Colorado for ya. Looks like you're in Pueblo West...Did you ever take yours over Medano Pass to the Sand Dunes?

^ Sounds like a good deal!

From a 4runner to a Golf? Why?

Which college are you going to?

He had a thread on it that I believe got deleted... got a little outa hand.. lol

I think it was gas prices and what not. He's in high school (which again, I must complement him on working for his own money). Then I think its a VW fam (absolutely nothing wrong with that either). Then the engine, it just added up.

Am I right on all?

Again, enjoy the new wheels - looks like a perfect high school/college ride.

should of gotten a camry, or a hyundai genesis. jmo though the hyundai genisis coupe is badass and gets like 42 mpg

You should have sold the Tourag. My friend has one and he wants to sell it due to all the problems.

why would i sell a 2010 touareg 2 tdi that gets about 33 mpg highway vs a 4runner that gets like 20

and the touareg 2 is 50k+ 4runner 21k

and the touareg 2 is better offroad than the 4runner. the touareg 2 has the airbag suspension that will lift it about 2 inches when you want it to, and an engine that puts out over 250 hp and over 400fp tourqe
