some 4runner have 2wd and some don't ?

Hi ! as some of you may know i recently bought an '04 V8 Limited Runner

Before buying I visited some other runner and some had the option on 2 wheel drive and some don't like mine ... I am right to believe the V8 are 4WD full time and the V6 can be 2WD or 4WD

some have this button but on mine there is only 4H and 4L

Can someone tell me why some have it and some don't ! Sorry im a 4runner newbie !

for some reason, this option (2WD or 4WD mode) is only available in the V6. Not sure why they did put this option in the V8's.

I have a V6 and I like having this option. On nice dry summer days, i put it on 2WD mode while on the highway. Steering feel is a bit light on 2WD mode.

Yeah all the V8 4Runners are all time 4WD, while the V6's have the option to run in 2WD. I believe this is because of the 4.7L platform coming from Landcruisers and GX470s.

Not as much as you might think. Most of the mpg difference between pure 2wd models and their 4wd counterparts comes from hauling around the weight of the 4wd hardware.

The drive line effect virtually disappears when compared to the two other factors that actually create the mpg difference between V6 and V8, namely, 2 extra cylinders and a cast iron block.
