Some assistance with TRD Pro Pricing...

First, thanks for the taking the time to potentially provide some advice. I have lurked the forums for a few weeks and I have to say, this is a pretty good community. I'm hoping this group can assist with some pricing questions.

First a little about my situation. I drive a minivan to haul around my 3 boys. I die a little each day driving that honda around. I'm not interested in modding myself, I just can't follow directions .

I have attached the images below.

Q1 - WTF is that $5,000 addendum?
Q2 - Because of the rarity, what realistic price am I looking at? MSRP?
Q3 - Is the pro worth this type of premium price?

Q1- Yeah that $5K is insane and ridiculous! Don't pay that!
Q3- I sure wouldn't pay more than MSRP for it, as you can get a SR5 or TRAIL for under MSRP. I've read reports Pros are selling for a bit under MSRP as well, at least in some parts of the country.

Whatever that $5k is, don't pay it!

Thanks. I was floored too. Almost all of the toyota dealerships around here are insane. I don't know if this is part of the "game" to get me to be ok with MSRP + Dealer, but I don't have to any vehicle that bad. Wasn't sure if anyone else has seen this before?

addendum is a vehicle "sticker add on". basically they are marking up the Pro over MSRP by $5k.... and there are idiots that will pay it. The odds of you getting them down on their price is slim to none right now.

so Q1 should answer Q2

Q3.... IMO hell no.

No stock 4runner is worth that kind of money, and like Greenamphibious said you probably won't get them down to an acceptable number starting off that high.

You might consider a sr5 premium leather seats easy to clean, not a minivan.

Go price it out on Toyota.com that will be your MSRP, that should be the max you should pay.

Go price it out with truecar.com that will hopefully be what you can get them at. Try different ZIP code as far as you are willing to travel. Some dealers are just lower cost than others. The dealers who are willing to big and get back to you, you can try to get them to order a TRD Pro for you if you have to have it.

Personally, if I didn't "have to have the 3rd row seat", I probably would have go with a TRD Pro (but of course, I will not be willing to pay more than MSRP).

Probably due to the fact that PEOPLE are enabling them. You can't really blame the dealership, you should blame "the people". Isn't that "exactly" the same on wall-street?

That's the reason I didn't buy a TRD FJ or TRD pro, I'm not paying sticker or more for a few thousand in extra parts I can add later on.

Not sure if you have USAA but if you go through them, you can grab one for 39.1k to 41k plus TTL. That was for the inferno color with no additional accessories.

I paid just under MSRP. And that was it. No destination charge or anything. Granted, I had to drive 300+ miles to pick it up, but I didn't care. No one in Houston would work with me. So I just went ahead and made a weekend out of it and visited friends and family back home. The only "option" I had was the running boards. I didn't like the kind that came with it, so I said no. I'll just buy my own later. As others have said, that $5,000 charge is just ridiculous. You can definitely get it cheaper. I wouldn't expect much less than MSRP though. They know that people will spend the full amount.

The key to use those car buying service is to identify who are the dealers around you (up to a certain distance) that are "lower cost" and doing more "internet/fleet dealings".

I am physically in San Diego, but using TrueCar, I identified that there are a few cities up north (<100miles) that have lowered cost dealers, eg. Torrance, Riverside etc... they are on average, even on TrueCar offereings $500 - $1000 lower than offers that my immediate city's dealers offer.

Then you ping their "internet/fleet" sales people, and you can negotiate and have them "order" a vehicle for you (with the right color, options, port-installations etc..)...... all thru emails...... once you nailed down your deal and the car arrives at the dealership, you just drive there and pick it up.... no haggling etc..

The Toyota dealership near me in Costa Mesa has an inferno Tundra Pro with that same markup. 42k plus 5k markup. It was the first thing I noticed and I asked the salesman what's with the markup and he came back with "that's just on there for us....we can start at the 42k price point if you're interested.." So either they are trying to trap stupid people or they are desperate to sell it by instantly removing it??

My location is Maryland. Your Mileage May Vary

I used a TrueCar+USAA build quote of 38,900 (before TTL), from another dealer to get the same price from a dealer who had a TRD Pro on the lot for a few weeks. Dealer was asking for 44+ Freight Fees etc...

Not sure what I did to get them to lower the price. I was shocked when they agreed. Just wanted to point out I was able to use TrueCar and USAA.

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "The Monroney sticker or window sticker is a label required in the United States to be displayed in all new automobiles and includes the listing of certain official information about the car...."

.... has the MSRP. If they're not displaying it ask for it.

If you want a TRDP badly enough to pay msrp, which is entirely your business, whip out your checkbook and offer it. They can say 'yes' or 'no'. If 'no' you walk. Easy peasy rice and cheesy.

Some would suggest you do this over the phone, but most dealers do not take this seriously ... nor would I. ymmv.
