Some desert pictures with my new KO2s

I tried my new tires out yesterday on some easy trails. I aired them down to 25 psi to smooth out the ride and flex over rocks. The funny thing is when I do the chalk test to set the pressure the chalk mark seems to stay the same at all pressures I have tried. I do not have tpms sensors on these wheels. It is weird that the tpms light resets itself when I park the 4runner in the garage and it takes around 10-15 minutes before it senses the tires have no sensors before the light comes on after leaving the garage. The picture of the tire on the rock demonstrates why the 20" wheels and tires had to go for desert use. Rocks like this are common and can cut a P rated tire and you need more sidewall than a 20" wheel can give. I was playing with the atrac. It is a different setup than my 03 had but worked great when turned on when a tire was in the air. So far I have more off road miles on these tires than on road.

I only have around 30 street miles on them so far with a max speed of 65 but from what I can tell they are about the same as the 20s with 32 psi and 34 in the KO2 tires. You can not tell any difference in the tires other than my tpms light is on now from no sensors. Even the noise is about the same but from past experience all terrain tires get noisier as they age. The new tires and wheels weigh 9 Lbs. more than the stock 20s each on a bathroom scale. The 4runner sets 5/16" higher with the new tires in my level garage. The speedometer reading stayed the same according to my garmin gps.

I doubt many people own tires more perfectly suited to their use than those for you.

Yeah, chalk tests are probably more deceiving than they are enlightening.

A lift is the next item on my list. I am very limited as to where I can go compared to where I went with my lifted 03. I did install an RCI gas tank skid plate to protect the exposed plastic Limited's gas tank. I want to get their transfer case skid also to protect the low hanging exhaust crossover pipe under the transfer case also.

Are your original tires and wheel stored in the garage? if so you may be picking up those sensors when you start back up in the garage.:shrug:

Yes they are about 15 feet away. I am just surprised at how long it takes the 4runner to realize the sensors are not there anymore after leaving the garage. I always thought it would be almost instant.

My 2015 Limited is getting hard to look at with the stock 20" wheels and skinny tires.

They are stock SR5 wheels. I got them at my local Toyota dealer for $200. They had some light scratches from a tire machine. Once in a while I got a very slight rubbing on the back side if the wheel is turned just right under braking. When I put the front mudflaps on I reinstalled the little cover that was there originally over the mudflap. That is what it is rubbing on. After looking at it I see no need for that original piece and will remove it since the mudflap covers the same area. I actually only have about 300 miles on the new tires. I still use the 20's for highway trips. I just got back from my Thanksgiving trip and will be putting the 17s back on for off road season in Arizona.

The only placed they rubbed very slightly was on the back side of the front tire wheel well at mud flap height. There is a small plastic piece there with a bump that sticks out. It only rubbed if the wheel was turned just right and the body was flexed just right. I took the piece off, heated the bump with a heat gun and compressed the bump in a vice. No more rubbing now.

If you installed a toytec spacer lift would you be able to get 285/70/17 in there without rubbing?

I have a 16 limited and really do not like the 20s. Too skinny and not enough of a stance.

I have been all over the forum trying to figure out my move for tires. I have a 2014 TE w/KDSS. I am only planning on doing the revtek (1.5) front leveling kit (back stock).

My options are 275/70/17 KO2s or 265/70/17 KO2s with spidertraxx spacers.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Those tires look good. A lift would improve your tire clearance.

The big achilleas' heal in your rig are those running boards. They hang down and catch rocks and cause more damage if/when you bend them. I saw that on a 4Runner recently here in So Cal near Frazier Park on the Miller Jeep Trail. Both sides were pushed up into the rocker panels. Ouch, that is expensive damage.

Get rock sliders. You may have to cut off those Limited trim panels below the door to mount the rock sliders, but it's worth it.

You'll probably destroy the stock skid plates on rocky terrain so consider the RCI skid plates to replace them with. That's what I did with my 2015 Trail Edition.
