Im new here, i currently own a 93' toyota pickup and i thinking of purchasing a 4runner i found for sale today. ive been looking for a 3rd generation, all black, chrome bumper, grey interior, v6, and finally found one. it is a 1996, and has 180k miles on it, the guy wants 6,500. the body and interior looks excellent condition and he has been the owner since he bought it new. im going to go check it out later today and wonderin what things i should look for? any common problems with 4runner i should be aware of? ive never owned a 4runner before, had a few friends with some before and i always wanted to get one. i dont really like the newer ones so thats why i wanted the 3rd generation models. i plan to rebuild the engine since the milage is so high. what do you guys think of this deal? any help appreciated. thank you

6500 seems reasonable. 180K miles isn't all that much for a Toyota, if it's been maintained. I'd ask the PO for any maintenance records. Try to determine if/when the Timing belt/water pump has been changed. Check to see if the rear axle seals are leaking. Check CV joints, P/S rack, U joints, etc.

Deal seems good. I paid about 11k for my 97 with 80k miles. I'm with you on the 3rd generations, not a big fan of the new ones. Although the more I see them, SOME have grown on me, depending on what mods have been done.
