Some more help, mirror installation

With no surprise, the local dealer wants to charge a 100 bucks to install a replacement mirror.

Has anyone had to replace either of their mirrors?
I'm about to order the passenger side mirror for my dad's 08 SR5 - he is convinced that someone who know's what they're doing is going to do the install... how hard can it be, help? I'm sure someone in here has had to do it...

There's a company that makes aftermarket mirrors with LEDs for the turn signals. This thread talks about installing those and includes links that have pics. There's good "how-to's" about how to get the door panel and mirror off. Good luck!

bump - don't get mad people, i'm just in dire need of assistance.

If you can, get a friend to hold the door panel up so it doesn't hang by the cables and wires inside,. It's very easy to break the plastic ends on the door opener and lock cables.

Too bad you don't live close... AND ... if you broke the right side, I'd sell you my right side.

I want to get a Color Matching one.

Someone smashed my left one like a year ago & I replaced it w/ the Color Matching Sport/Limited one.

Later on...found out that it was heated!! Toyota pre-wires the SR5 to have heated mirrors, but it's a pity they give us the Black NON-heated mirrors. :crybaby:

The door panels needs to be removed to replace the mirror...I didn't do it myself, but I saw how it was done...very easy.

It may not be worth your wild...because my Black mirror housing is scratched.

So my dad INSISTS that the installation be done at the dealership, where it costs a hundred dollars. I found a shop in town that will do it for 30, my dad then says, "You're going to Karl Malone (the Abq dealer) unless I'm absolutely enamored with this shop." And he definitely won't be, but every shop in Albuquerque is kind of ghetto... he won't let me do the install because it involves taking the door panel off...I've taken all of my panels off without breaking anything... ugghh! Thoughts?

if your dad insists...make him pay and take it to the stealership.

if it's your money, then TELL him you're going to do it.

Door panel removal really isn't that hard. Even if you do break the plastic plugs, you can buy new ones at the stealership (they arent cheap, but still probably less than paying someone to do it)

I just ended up taking it to some auto shop here in town, took ten minutes, 30 bucks cash. Oh well, better than the 'stealership.'
