Some 'play' in my hood

Just purchased our 'replacement' 4Runner on Tuesday. I noticed on the drive back on the highway the hood was moving alot more than normal.. I thought maybe I hadn't gotten it latched properly when I was checking under the hood last, so I pulled over and checked.
Slammed it shut this time and it's definitely latched properly, but when I stick my fingers in the edges and pull up, there's about half a centimetre of play before it catches on the latch and stops.

Have any of you seen this? Any ideas?

On either side of the core support there are little black bumpstop looking things. They actually screw in and out of the core support to adjust the tightness of the hood. Just give them a few turns up and you should be good to go!
