Someone scratched my car

Came to my car today to find booger written on the side of my car, its a pretty light scratches. It is a whtie scratch on my green 4runner, it is noticable, but not very deep, I believe some little kid used scissors not very hard or osmething to do it.

What can I do to get this off? Will it last? How much should it cost?

Heres a picture. I went to the store, the guy said that Meguairs Scratch-X will nto work, and he even gave me some to try. I went in, put some on, it worked for a bit, I rubbed it in with a towel, but I might have rubbed it off, I dont know though, but it worked for awhile, went back in the store to ask how much it was, came back out, and it was back to normal scartched up.

Here is the picture, how much would it cost to get taken to the profesional? Anyone recommend anything? I'm not ver ygood with any body work or anything, i dont really feel comfortable sanding some stuff down..

Did some reading, do you guys think its the clear coat? Would getting some paint bottles, and rubbing the scratch with a toothpick work?

Sorry for all the posts, just concerned, its been probably the worst week of my life. My car was broken into tuesday, and today this happens.
 
The car getting broken into was at my house, I left my radio in. The scratch happened at school, I'm 95% sure who it was, he asked one of my friends if the ysaw what happened to my car.

I'm not an expert on this, but I've heard that if it's only a scratch in the clear coat you may have some success with this compound. If it's down to the bare metal, you need to touch it up with paint and if that

I found out who did it, apparently it was supposed to be a joke, and the retard didn't know what he was doing. But hes scared crapless of me, and he said he was going to pay for it.

Now how should I go about fixing it? Body shop? How much would that cost?

NViejeP,

Sorry to hear about your 4R falling victim to these incidents. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think it's gone deeper than the clear coat and through the paint into the primer. If you've tried Scratch-X and it didn't make it better, it's probably not on the clear coat. Usually scratches on the clear can be buffed out and those are the scratches that are more visible under certain lighting conditions than others. Take your finger nail and pretend you're going to scratch an itch on your 4R by running it perpendicular across the scratches. If your finger nail "catches" the scratch, it's broken though the paint and will require repainting. You shouldn't be able to feel the scratch if it's just on the clear.

Any rubbing compound, cutter, etc. beyond Scratch-X is best left to a pro, if you don't have any experience with detailing and/or a high speed rotary buffer. It's very easy to burn the paint with a high speed rotary buffer.

Take it to body shop, because it's a green car it may be a little easier to match the paint. Where's the damage located at? Any shop that's going to a good job will probably have to paint the down the side of the truck to get a good blend of paint. With that said, your friend is in for surprise for a prank turned bad. This will probably set him back a few hundred. A good body shop in SF is Don's Auto Body. They got several locations, one on Bush St, Clement, and two more. Let me know if you need their info.

Yah I might be headed down to Dons.

When I run my finger nail over it, I can catch it sometimes, especially when I try, it is very so slight though, sometimes even when I run through it, it does not make it.

I can only set my finger is the darker parts, the "o"s of booger, I can't realyl feel, but the beginning of B, I can set my finger nail in therE VERY slightly if I try.

The writing is on top of the front wheel wall, right before the hood.

How much do you think this is going to cost?

Dons does a good job right? The writing is noticable in the light, and a little bit in the dark. I want it fixed asap.
 
Uneek, I dont need the information, I looked it up. It's relatively close to my house so that won't be a problem.

What I'm concerned about is if they are good, and honest?

Also, how long do you think it will take and how much do you think it will cost? Will they be honest with me and tell me if its clear coat or under that?

I ordered them both and they worked out fine. Both of these product even have 800 numbers that you can call and speak to someone who can help you out on how to use the products. (I know, I called them both before I attempted to do the repair myself.) It's way cheaper than a paint restoration place.

Mixed4u, this raises my eyebrow. How does it work? Do I have to sadn anything down? Would a person that had no painting skills be able to do it?

How deep were your scratches?
 
Also, will that work for my case?

Most of the "Booger" that the person wrote, I can feel it with finger nail if I run over it, but it is ever so slight. There are some parts where its harder to catch than others.

The scratch is no more than 2.5 inches long and 1 inch tall. The scratch lines look like someone got the tip of a pocket knife and did it.

Would this situation be worth it to take to a profesional? Or do you guys think I should order those kits and do it myself?
 
I did all my stuff myself and did not do any sanding. I have never painted on a car myself before, ever and mine turned out alright. I would give these guys a call at the two companies and talk to them. They are very helpful, nice and honest at both places and then make a decision if you would like to give it a try. It sure was worth it to me. The site says that the kind of scratches that you have are exactly the kind their products are most effective on. For me, I used their stuff to detail out all the little chips you get from just driving down the road after a while and plus, a big rock flew up while I was on the freeway and took a big chip out of the side panel behind one of the back doors. I liked the results that I got.

I'm glad I read this thread; I was getting ready to search for a way to fix a scratch and a couple of places on my hood where the paint chipped down to the white.

Mixed4u, so are you saying the Blob Eliminator is necessary in addition to the stuff from PaintScratch.com? Also, would you recommend the 1/2oz. pen or the 1oz. bottle?

I got the Blob Eliminator Paint Chip repair kit from the Langka people, and from Paintscratch I just input the VIN number from my 4Runner and the web-site put a kit together for me. I used the stuff from the Blob Eliminator to prepare the spots, then I used the steps in the Paintscratch kit to repair the chips, then I went back to the Blob Elimator to clean the repairs up and finish the job. I ordered the kit that comes with the pen from the Paintscratch company, but the Blob Eliminator kit comes with a little brush that I used as well. I'm just waiting a month now just so that I can be sure that everything is completely cured before I send my 4Runner into the detailer to have the inside done and the outside claybar-ed and detailed in time for the summer. I still advise that you call the 800 numbers and actually speak to the 2 companies because I was nervous as hell about applying paint and stuff to my almost brand new 4Runner. They did a good job in simplifying everything for me so that I could relax enough to do the job. It didn't come out perfect, but unless I go around and point out all the little repairs that I did, you can't notice any of them.
