something odd about this 4runner for sale?

Hey guys, i have been on the hunt for another 3rd gen for a few months now and have seen this one pop up in the classifieds a few times. It is a 98 but the color and bumper combo look off.. i thought they only made that off pearly white color on 02's and a chrome bumper was stock, not the paint matches one.

Am i crazy? Thanks

just clarifying it is canadian, so about 135 miles. Its actually a very good price for the area. There are 3 low mileage (100k miles) listed at $12-13k locally :wow:

I'm not up on which years offered what colors. But the front bumper does look unusual. I guess you'd have to look at it to see if someone had it painted to match, or what. Easy enough to check if the whole vehicle was painted.

If the front has been repainted then the question is.... why? It does look rather strange from the pics. Whenever I sell anything, especially a car/truck, I would park in a nice well lit setting to take pics to honestly show potential buyers what is for sale. I am leery of this 4runner just because the pics were taken in what looks to be a parking garage. Good way to hide exterior problems. If it is far away from you , I would pass on it. Good luck!

And if I'm not mistaken, the limiteds have painted bumpers while the SR5's have the chrome bumpers.

Your right the color is not right for the year. I believe that pearl white was. 01-02 I'm interested to see if it has any limited options or if someone just put badges

Almost correct; my 2001 SR5(millennium silver) has bumpers factory painted to match, no chrome:barf:

thanks guys, it's a bit of a drive so ill wait to hear back about a few questions i asked. I'm starting to lose faith ill ever find another! I can't believe how much more expensive 4runners are now compared to when i bought my last 2 :shrug:

Yep. Up here that was an option called "Colour Package." It was only available on Limited models and only then in Desert Dune. You got colour-keyed: Grille, Front & Rear Bumpers, Body Cladding & Lower Valance.

Seems legit actually. Just check for colour code 1A5.

I'd say it's a 96-98 Limited with flares/running boards just painted to match. Then, whoever painted those also did the bumper and grille. Probably came with silver cladding.

The rest all matches 1996-98: the hatch emblems, side mirrors, etc.

Agreed. If you're worried about possible previous damage from an accident, it should be pretty easy to spot if you take a look closely at it.

that truck has been for sale for a couple of months now I must say, and its only a 10 min drive from my house. but that color package is rare but normal. when I was on the hunt for a 3rd gen I went and looked at one identical to that one with the exact same paint and it was a 98.
