I have a Police siren on mine. It has the PA function on it. Plus it has all the electronic airhorn, welp, radio relay and woop woop. I have the speaker (siren) mounted right behind my front grill and the electronics mounted in my center counsel. So it is totally invincible. I got mine off e-bay for around $100. The train horn will be much more expensive.
The Pa is annoying for pedestrians and for traffic on the trail or at the mall. On the road at highway speeds, it the same if you had someone behind you blowing their horn. Not noticeable.
I would love to have Train horns but there is no space. You would need some type of OBA, a tank, the horns and some place to mount it all. It would be to redneckish to mount that on the roof. You could ditch the spare tire and mount it there but then you need to mount the spare tire some where.

Singtoe's system sounds cool......and I do agree that you'd need more space to mount all that equipement......if you decide to do the airhorns, you could always just do what I did........
Relocate your spare, and then you have tons of room to mount the OBA where the stock location is!!!

If you have a specific need for a PA (other than scaring pedestrians) then go for the PA. The train horn thing is pretty stupid. It is novel to have your vehicle sound like a train, but using it to scare pedestrians is a little bit like giggling every time someone uses a word that could even remotely be considered phallic; funny back in elementary school, but beyond that, just kind of pathetic. I promise, it isn't as funny as you think it is.
BTW, I'm not trying to be insulting to the OP or anyone. I have laughed at the train horn videos, but then when I think about the reality of it, it really isn't funny at all, just immature. I did laugh pretty hard at the video of the guy honking at the cop, getting a ticket, then honking at him again as the cop walked back to his cruiser.

Get a CB and a decent PA speaker (atleast 40W). I have an app on my droid designed for PA speakers. It has the woop woop, police wail, a few verbal phrases, all kinds of horns like trains, airhorn, dukes of hazard horn, etc.. lots of fun. Just be mindful of who is around when you use it...

So I am not the only one here that feels this way. The whole train horn thing...come on really? There are a number of "big" redneck trucks near where we live. Not too far from our house, it turns pretty rural. There are a number of us who use those rural roads for training. I am a cyclist. Can you see where this is going? I guess these guys with the train horns find it funny when they blow by us to lay on their train horn. Their lives must be pretty pathetic for that to get them excited. Yes it is deafening. If that's what the point of it is then go for it. If that's what you need to scare pedestrians and others then you...I will go ahead and stop here. I don't want to offend anyone, just don't get it I guess.

The horn gets my vote, but necessarily for the 'annoying pedestrians' reasons - mainly for the 'get your attention' reason, and that's coming from a motorcyclist's point of view. I'm usually on two wheels, and in general, stock motorcycle horns suck. I might as well put a thumb-bell on the handlebars. So I swapped the stock horn off all my bikes for either of these babies:
The 139dB Ear Cannon or the 132 dB Fiamm Freeway Blaster
Haven't tried this one yet - it's not as loud as the Ear Cannon ("only" 110dB) - Nautilus II Air horn
Don't know how much of an improvement these would make under the hood of a car, but on a motorcycle, they're a definite improvement.
The 139dB Ear Cannon or the 132 dB Fiamm Freeway Blaster
Haven't tried this one yet - it's not as loud as the Ear Cannon ("only" 110dB) - Nautilus II Air horn
Don't know how much of an improvement these would make under the hood of a car, but on a motorcycle, they're a definite improvement.

That ear cannon looks pretty sweet. I had the regular nautlis compact airhorns on two different cars and they really sound great and wake up dips&^t drivers. Went with Hella Supertones on my 4runner and am quite happy with those. Train horns seem really like a silly use of money, plus with the new compact horns I've found that a sustained burst of 5-10 seconds will get most drivers to realize they just F'd up.
Regarding the PA, check your local laws/ordinances but out in california I don't think you can use them on public roads, or you can use them until a cop catches you.
I had some a'hole use his PA when I was on my road bike doing 30mph telling me I needed a light on my bike during the day. I caught up to him at the next stop light and created a significant emotional event in his life:boxer:

You are talking about a totally different situation. I ride a motorcycle too, and yeah, the horn is crap and I am shopping for a louder one. But you know what I want less than a motorist trying to change lanes into me? A motorist trying to change lanes into me that gets pounded with an unreasonably loud train horn causing them to jump and inadvertently turn the wheel. I can pay attention and brake to get behind someone trying to run me off the road, but if they crank their wheel when startled, then they could come over faster than I can react. Or they could go the other way and hit a car with a family in it.
There is a difference between alerting drivers, and distracting them. Train horns will never be helpful, only a distraction. I wouldn't put one on my bike if it could be had in a small package. Your first time on two wheels next to a car with a jumpy driver, and you won't feel very safe.

The law in my area will bust you big$$ for using a PA or horn exceeding XX decibles(do not remember the level, just some t-school info) I too get honked for riding my bike but my experience is that the louder the honk the more chicken $#it the driver!

Before the siren was on my 4runner it was on my rice rocket. I have used so many times, it has paid for it self in gigles alone.
I would meet up at the local gas station or parking lot and a group of us would then go out on a spirited run. Tripple digit speeds on one wheel and what not. I get behind someone who was doing shaningans and whoop whoop my siren. They would just about wet their pants.
I would pull up to a group of bikers at a red light and they're doing their BS of rev the motor and doing sitting burnouts. I hit the siren and those would freeze in their tracks - look around and then wonder WTF. One time, I had one guy not even turn around to look, He just took off through the red light and ran.
Ah- Good times.

You ever see the picture of the motorcyclist hanging by his head from the back of a semi? or seen a motorcyclist get t-boned? It may sometimes stop their shenanigans to woop at them, but even if they are being squids, you don't want to pour fuel on the fire. I am sure you would feel pretty terrible if that guy that ran the red when you honked got t-boned and died.
You may be 99% justified, but if that 1% pushes someone over the limit and something bad happens, you are going to feel some very real guilt. Shoot, if someone did it to you while you were doing your "tripple[sic] digit speeds on one wheel", you might flinch and crash. Not trying to guilt trip you or anything, but reading your post made me picture Singtoe1 doing his wheelie's and Singtoe2 "woop woop"ing him and laughing until Singtoe1 flinches and crashes. Seems a little self-defeating.
Man, I feel like I am getting preachy and over-dramatic here, but it just really irks me to see a community encouraging irresponsible/destructive behavior.

Mind you, I have never done that while they were on one wheel but after they have come down and are savoring what they just accomplished.
I would have a guilty conscious but most of the rice rocket pilots here in North Cacalaca are down right thugs. If they run, it because they are most likely wanted by the law. If they wreck, its on them.
I have seen my fair share of 2 wheel wrecks. Gravel in the road, chain came off, went to far back on one wheel, come down to hard from being on one wheel, went to far forward on a stoppie, wicked tank slappers and just inexperience. Nobody going home in a bag though.
My days of street shanigans are over now, as I have retired the two wheels. Sure, I miss the the days of mile long wheelies and joking around with other bikers but there is a lot of other drivers out on the road and they are clueless to their surroundings. I'm a cagier now but if the notion inspires me, i'll try the MX scene.

TRAIN HORN, after moving from the DFW metroplex to Colo. Spr. I have seen some of the worst driving in my life. I use my horn at least once a day in this town.... no really, all this super pot makes everyone drive like Miss Daisy!
