Something to be said for doing it yourself

Ok I'm going to try to make a long, long story short. By the way this is me venting so beware. I got my 91 3.0 about 3 months ago. Bought it broke down with a blown HG and had no idea what I was getting in to. Me and the bro decided to tackle the job at home and see what happened. Surprisingly, we got it tore down and put back together without any spare parts. We couldn't get it to run and after a week of messing with it I got fed up and hauled it to the shop. That was 3 and 1/2 weeks ago. So far the mechanic has fixed the timing, MAF sensor, new master cyliner, and hooked the exhaust up. I talked to him today and it has a 1 quart per 3 minutes oil leak and a clogged catalytic converter. 3 months and way too much $$$$ later I'm still without 4runner. This thing better be worth it. End of rant.

i kinda know how you feel. i had a somewhat similar thing happen to me this past summer.
but if the truck just broke down it wasnt just a blown headgasket. i was driving on my blown headgasket for a couple weeks. but that sucks man!

Scary to read these. I just got my 94 3.0 sunday and keep reading about the head gasket issue. The truck looks in good shape but this has me paranoid now lol. Anyway, best of luck to you and I can totally understand your need to rant! 3 months in and still no working runner suck man. Just think positive though - once it's all fixed up that thing will run for a long time and handle all kinds of stuff you'll throw at it.

Yeah when I bought it I had no idea about the issues (and gas mileage) with the 3.0. Oh well I'm still excited to have it even if it does cost me more than it is worth
